50 Hz support

Thanks, I'm purchasing a new HDMI1.4 cable to see if that makes a difference.

Don't, that would be a waste of money.

 

Cheap HDMI Cables are fine, expensive make no difference at all!

 

I'm getting HDMI1.4a cable @ £1.45 so I don't think it's too much of a waste.

 

That will be best, I was just referring to shops that charge around £10 - £60 for certain HDMI cables!

 

After last nights issue with 1080i I tried again today and I have not had the problem since. Strange because all I changed was HDMI DD audio to optical dts. Just glad its working

I have a Sony TV 1080i maximum so I still set it at 720p on Xbox and 720p on Sky box.. there is a constant handshake in switching from TV to game it's not very seamless I prefer the 60hz option lol

What would happen if I set my sky box to 1080i?... there is no 1080i option on Xbox?

Why not just try it out? I guess the Xbox One will apply a deinterlacing filter and downscale to 720p.

 

I worked out how to reproduce the lines:

Force power off the Xbox One then power on, the lines intermittently appear during full screen TV playback. To get rid of the problem put the Xbox One into standby then "Xbox On" and the lines have now gone.

 

As well as solving the 50mhz issue, does anyone know if this patch corrects the degradation of picture issue as well? (On all the plasma TV's where I saw Sky passed through the X1, the picture looked much worse). The picture looks much darker and lifeless
when passed through the X1.

 

As above, the picture when passed through the X1 is terrible; almost looks like its being streamed from the internet. Is this fixed as well?

 

One thing I have now noticed is that the edges of bright colours, particularly reds and oranges, flicker quite significantly during movement I.e. Panning shots or footballers shirts. I believe this is due to my Sky box outputting 1080i and the XB1 outputting
1080p. If I change the sky to 720p the problem is significantly reduced although the quality is visibly lower. At the moment I am putting up with the flicker. It tends to mostly occur with sports. No issue with movies but I have read that because movies only
use 25fps, the 1080i 50fps effectively becomes 1080p 25fps. I think these conversion issues will manifest in different ways depending on input and TV. We are getting closer but not quite there yet!

 

1080i50 will always become 1080p25 when displayed on your TV, regardless of the source material. As for the flicker, that's probably due to your TV's deinterlacing filter being better than the Xbox One's deinterlacing.

For sport, I'd always prefer 720p50 over 1080i50. However, if your TV channel is broadcasting 1080i50, you don't have a choice anyway.
