4K and 5.1, is it possible?

I've tried some setup combinations for my LG UJ6300, Yamaha RX-V377, and XBOX ONE X to make it possible to have 4K and 5.1 surround sound. Here are the only 2 combinations i figured out:

1)hdmi out of XOX to my LG TV hdmi 2, next is optical cable from XOX to YAMAHA, then hdmi out of YAMAHA to LG TV hdmi 1. The result is that i get 4k but not 5.1 surround. I did get bitstream sound but thats not what i wanted.

2)hdmi out of XOX to hdmi 2 of YAMAHA, next is optical cable from XOX to YAMAHA, then hdmi out of YAMAHA to LG TV hdmi 1 or 2. The end result was that i got 5.1 surround sound, but the best resolution i got was 1080p. Not what i
    wanted either.

Long story short, i wasn't able to get 4k and 5.1 at the same time. So here's my question, is it possible to get both 4k and 5.1?

    :)

Upgraded to Xbox One S now surround sound no longer works (0x80bd0009)

I can only use 5.1 when I reconfigure settings from auto detect (4k uhd) to manual HDMI (1080p) The issue is that I must choose between 4k HDR and 5.1 surround. They cannot both be used together. Need Help!!

The receiver seems to be your problem. It has an outdated HDMI port.

    Going off of your
    Yamaha AV's online manual
(p78), it seems that your receiver only supports HDMI 1.4 (which drives up to 4K/30Hz). In order for the Xbox One X to display 4K resolution, it must be plugged into a device with at least HDMI 2.0 on it, as that
has the HDMI port capable of 4K/60Hz. This is why when you plug it into your receiver, you can only get up to 1080p.

Unless if your 5.1 speaker setup is able to connect directly to the Xbox through optical, looks as though your only solution to achieve 4K w/ 5.1 Surround is to get a new AV receiver. Specifically, look for a unit that supports HDMI 2.0 or greater.

Well, guess there's no avoiding it. I was hoping there was a solution that wouldn't break the bank, but i guess not. Also, yes my setup right now has my optical cable connected from XOX to my reciever, but, when i'm on my XOX and go to "Display & sound",
I can put both the HDMI audio and Optical audio on "Bitstream out", but doing that keeps me from picking 5.1. That's why i thought the second method i used would work. It did but didn't.
