4 player split screen extinct?

I bought an Xbox One last year at midnight when they were officially released but since then i have yet to play a local multiplayer match. The Xbox One is capable of syncing 8 controllers at once yet i don't see company's taking advantage of this. On previous
consoles i have always enjoyed having friends over and staying up till 4 in the morning playing CoD, Halo, and so on but now games are only 2 player splitscreen with co-op. Does anyone else get frustrated over this?

Best 4-Player Split-Screen X360 Games?

I'm a HUGE fan of 4-player split screen. COD is good, and Black Ops 2 has 4-player split screen (unlike any other COD zombie game). All Halo's are also great.

 

Lack of couch co-op

borderland is having 4 player split screen coop so it can be done new resident evil revelations is split screen as well

 

Yea, it doesn't help that the games won't take advantage to what the Xbox is offering, give it time, i'm sure Treyarch will put that in their new COD game next year.

 

The 8 controller thing was a gimmick to sell consoles.MS knew there would never be games that had 8 player support since it would require televisions the size of IMAX screens for anyone to see it.

 

You'd think there'd be more stick-shooters really. Somebody should do a local/online 8-player Smash TV reboot (or rip-off) or something. =)

 

Bring back something like Ivan Stewarts off road racing or sprint. The screen is static and the cars go round the track. Those games have never supported more than four players so eight players could revive that type of racing game. Or rampage. How many
monsters could you fit in one city? Or how about a side scrolling shooter like aegis wing? Combining four ships was a blast. Imagine two four ship combos or all eight combine to make a flying fortress. I know these games aren't split screen but would still
be fun local coop. As far as split screen goes anything more than four players would be too much. But I do wish games supported online split screen like they used to. I remember going online playing split screen in project Gotham or forza (can't remember which)
and halo as well

 

I do miss the old days of playing split screen, but with online play taking over, they probably don't see it as being something important anymore. Yet a lot people still like to play in split screen.

 

I still have my Original Xbox hooked up (after 12+ years) and I am enjoying many of the local multiplayer games. I just realized there was a multiplayer mode in Jet Set Radio Future and started playing it recently with my brother.

I'm sure the Xbox One will have some 8 player games -- maybe a new Scene It or a Super Smash Bros copy.

 

The only games that would benefit from that would be something like Super Smash, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc. Also, as someone else mentioned, splitscreen with more than 1 other person is tough because of the size of the image.

I got introduced to Halo by way of splitscreen. Those were some of the best times I've had playing a game. It takes the right game but I would love to see some more games with a 4+ splitscreen/same console co-op.

 

Also with 16:9 aspect ratio they should give an option to have splitscreen side by side and not just top and bottom. I remember a driving game on the Saturn with side by side splitscreen that would merge into one screen when you and your opponent were near
each other. Pretty cool feature that I'm surprised hasnt been used in other games considering todays technology verses what it was like in the nineties

 

The truth is it dead conceap of gaming featuer. Unlike sidescollers that it comeback as a causal game genra. It as no chance of coming back.

 

so you would rather not have someone on the couch next to you? Its fine if all you do is play online with a headset but why should that be the only way to play multiplayer? Why should my family have to play on different consoles on different TV's in different
rooms to play a game together? Trash talking is much more fun when its face to face with someone you love.

 

Most people those days rather play online then go to friend's house and play games. Because people complaine about achievement that have go split screen to unlocked.

 

I guess I'm in the minority who actually enjoys human interaction. I never much cared about unlocking acheivements. I think I only have something like two games at 100%. Don't get me wrong, I play online as much as anybody, but I still enjoy getting together
with friends and family to play games. Racing games in particular but I like shooters as well. There is absolutely no reason why we should play games like we are jacked into the Matrix all the time. It's sad if people these days cant socialize without an online
identity. I guess I'm just old.
