360 Slim doesn’t pick up any nearby networks

    Hello,

Seems like my 360 slim now has the pretty common network card failure.

Update: now even with an external network adapter, the 360 says there’s no wireless networks, and there is no refresh or configuring the adapter. (Even though it has asked me a few times before, which seems to yield no results)

A couple days ago, it randomly disconnected on me while watching YouTube; which is an extremely rare occurrence, as I’ve gotten my last and current isp dialed with it. so only like a power or service outage or equipment failure, is going to be the reason why it disconnects. (just simply enjoying something old to some extent that still works).

Then I noticed it wasn’t picking up my network or any others it typically does for that matter. Can’t make it check for networks either. But it does tell me I need a network adapter to connect wirelessly. Odd, considering that it came with an internal adapter. But I kept my upgraded external network adapter from my original white one, that got the red ring of death for the second time; which would’ve cost 135 to fix; I declined and said no I can just get the newest gen 360, with 250gb for $90 off eBay. And so I did.

Before I plugged in an external adapter, I tried everything else first, cleared caches, disconnected completely reconnect if I could, and tried checking for networks, did the system update roll back I found on another older post in the forums, nothing changed. Though, as I’m typing up this post for help, YouTube is playing as expected despite the inconsistent network details when tested in console, with the external adapter.

Anyways, I plugged the external adapter in and not only does it pick up all near by networks now, it picks up the signals a lot better than the internal adapter did; but that doesn’t necessarily mean the connection is reflecting just as strong or the same too. It’s very inconsistent; latency, packet loss, upload speeds, all fluctuating heavily or “failed” and rarely all normal. And yes, download speed still reads 0.01 no matter what I do, not isp related as it started while with AT&T and now spectrum. Obviously YouTube and any online games are fine still, so that’s not the true speed at all.

Perhaps this is related to the internal network card too?

So, I’m wondering if this is all directly related to a bad internal network card, and where can I get a new or refurbished one that’s reliable and dependable?

    :)

Well, this 360 slim is the replacement console. The white one is my original and has had the red ring of death fixed once free, as part of an old deal they had. But this black slim has never had the network card replaced, cause the insulation between the grille and internals were still melted down to hold it in place. So I popped its cherry. And put an order in for a new network card. I don’t know that could trust a $5 Xbox 360, if that even exists on the market… lol.

Out of curiosity, what all is involved with fixing a red ring of death in a og white 360?

What is LAN internet, exactly? Sorry, but I’ve never actually read up on it before believe it or not. Is it the same as being “hard-wired” or using an Ethernet cable?

Whelp, got a replacement network card in today, plugged it in, buttoned it back up, powered it on, went to network settings, picked up all nearby networks again, woohoo! read connection speed’s correctly again too woohoo! which was a plus for me. I say was, because not 5 seconds into playing a YouTube video, the replacement card took a complete dump too. How do I know? It can’t pick up any wireless connections again… ugh so frustrating… least the eBay seller has a warranty on them so I’ll see.

It doesn't even make sense to use cable internet, but I also believe that it doesn't pay much to try to repair your Xbox a second time, wouldn't it be better to look for another used console?

I say this because repairs are expensive and sometimes it is more advantageous to buy a used one than to repair it, although this is just a suggestion.
