3 xbox one consoles on a single gold account

Hello,

We are thinking of adding a 3rd Xbox one console to our house so myself and my kids can all play together at the same time, specifically the games that don't have split screen but do have multi-player. We prefer to buy the digital copy of the game and share
the gaming experience across our LAN. Is it possible to connect a 3rd console without adding another Xbox live gold account and can we play together on the same network without buying multiple copies of the same game?

I think so yes but for a single xbox, it takes the single live account and all users can access features behind the paywall as if they had gold on that console.

arthurdentpc has 3 xbox's tho, and the old "family" bundle allowed each user to effectively have their own gold membership, so gold on each user which translated to gold on each console, now its gold to anyone on the single xbox....

So I assume on single xbox families the new system is much better, but on multiple xbox families its not as good. Its not super clear tho how this new gold system will work on xbox one, but it does read like arthur is shafted rather unfairly in this new scenario.Click to expand...

If that is the case who gets to use their gold account on other machines? They've clearly said that. Just like now, your live subscription follows you to whatever Xbox console you use. So who on that original console can take their account to another console?

I thought they were getting rid of the family live membership because you could have so many members under your live account now at no added cost? So it should work out cheaper... at least I thought that's what they said at their E3 conference.Click to expand...

The quick answer is NO But Let me see if i can explain this to you easily.

Licenses for the digital games and subscriptions go with the profile/accounts themselves so:

No matter what console a profile is signed into a profile will always be able to play its digital games and use its subscriptions.

Each profile can set ONE console at a time as its home console and any other profile on that console will have permission to play its digital games and use its subscriptions.

With that in mind you can only switch which console you have set as your home console FIVE times a year once you use that FIVE times you have to wait a year before switching again.

Let me give you a scenario in your situation

Say you have 3 Xbox consoles A B C and 3 xbox profiles A B C

Your profile is the profile with all the games and subscriptions on it so you set console A as your home console Profiles all 3 profiles would then be able to play your digital games and use your subscription on that console

but on consoles B and C only your profile would be able to play your digital games and use your subscription.

So you could be playing with your profile one either console B or C while one of your kids is playing on console A at the same time but throwing a third console into the mix with a third profile you would not because that third console is not your home
console.

That was a really good explanation, thank you. I was hoping to expand our gaming opportunities, looks like we will stick with the two consoles and games that offer split screen. Again, thanks for taking the time and providing clear information.

The XBox One 'home gold' only applies to a SINGLE console - so you need a separate gold account for EACH console.

You don't need multiple Xbox One's, any account on a single console will have Gold privileges, more than one console is not necessary. As for 360, maybe they will add more options later.

Yes, no problem.

Two might be okay - the Gold account can play on any console, while any other account can play on the console that is designated as the "home" console. Playing on 4 consoles at a time would require two subscriptions.

4) Can the old individual profiles be brought under one single account and preserve all the profile names, achievements, friends, etc?

The accounts/profiles will still be separate - friends, achievements and such will stay with the respective accounts. It's just the gold membership being shared that changes - one subscription allows all accounts on a single
console to have access to the online multiplayer.
