2k18 nba wont download updates just sits there

I'm about to try 2K chat support. I'm not expecting them to do anything to help as this is obviously a known issue but they want to drive people to their newer games. It's disgusting & unconscionable that an entire generation of 2K basketball games may become
unplayable over time. Apparently, people are reporting the same problems with 2k16 & 2k17. I have both but haven't tried them yet.

It looks like 2k is basically giving the 2K community the finger with this move...if you happen to prefer one of the older 2K games, well, "too bad". Honestly, this shouldn't be legal. They should have to provide a working game or refunds. But they are banking
on the fact that not enough people care about older versions since they've turned this series into annualized trash & they clearly only care about the MyPlayer/MyTeam whales who drop mega bucks on the latest version. Everyone else who plays the offline version
can apparently go screw themselves after a couple years.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

As recently as May 7, 2020, I have experienced the same problem. Although I have later versions of the game, I enjoy playing 2K18. First of all, I'm not a hard core gamer. This problem was corrected by completely deleting the saved data from the console
and elsewhere. (I believe its the second tab). Do not delete RESERVE SPACE. After doing this procedure and restarting the console. I was able to start the game. I was then prompted to create a player (e.g. name, facial etc.) and after
completing this requirement, I was able to start the game, and it s still working as of this writing.

Again, I' am not a hard core gamer. So, I don't know if this procedure removes roster updates, system updates or personalized teams etc.-- But, the game is working. Like other individuals on the forum, I did all of the reinstalls, resets and everything
else imaginable and the game would get stuck at the downloading update screen with no progression.

I purchased NBA 2K18 Gold Legends edition at launch so I have a severe vested interest. Foolish on my part, I never opened the player packs so I lost them. As I said, I'm not a hard core gamer, I just play the game offline.

Nevertheless, I hope this works for everyone having this problem. Please remember, you might lose some of your prized data, but at it least the game plays and hopefully for you.

Please note, I have an open ticket with 2K, but they haven't responded as of this writing.
