2K 120 FPS/VRR/XBOX SERIES X

Hello community, i am a bit confused about 2k 120 fps and vrr things. If you could answer I will be very happy. Thanks in advance.

1- Are 2k 120 fps supported games trully 2k 120 fps or is it just marketing. I mean can i get stable 120 fps in game play .

if so,

2- What about VRR in games that are supported 2k 120fps. Does it effect on those games because they are already stable on 120 fps no drops or sluttering shouldnt be in optimized 2k 120 fps as i read the other toppics. I know some games doesnt support stable fps so if you turn on VRR it makes your game smooth even lower fps. But what about stable 120 fps games in 2k lets say ?

You sound like you've got mixed up with the wording of what a '2K display' is. As put by SwordofWhedon, real 2k displays are used by the film industry and have a resolution of 2048x1080 native. This isn't resolution found in consumer displays.

720P = 1280x720

1080P = 1920x1080 (Nearly 2K, but not quite)

1440P = 2560x1440 (could be referred to as '2.5K')

4K = 3840x2160 (4K because many TV's actually have a native resolution of 4096 x 2160)

As above, many people think of 1440P displays as '2K' but this too is incorrect. A 1440P screen would actually be 2.5K when looking at the horizontal resolution, which is 2560 pixels.

It may interest you to know that 720P (Or 'HD Ready TVs) actually have a native resolution of 1360x768 and are simply downscaled when connected to 720P equipment including STB's, PCs, laptops and first generation HD consoles such as the Xbox 360 and PS3.

In regards to games and 120fps, it's usually 'up to 120fps'. You won't find many games that have a rock solid 120fps with no frame drops. This is where VRR comes in. With VRR enabled, the screen refresh rate changes to match the game frame rate. Which means smooth feeling games and crucially no unsightly screen tearing. Most people would be hard pressed to see or feel the difference if their game was running between 120 and 90 as the difference between the two is only about 3ms.

Note that to achieve 120fps, the Xbox has to produce a new frame every 8.3ms (milliseconds), which is no small feat. Since producing such frame rates takes a huge amount of graphics power, many games will actually run internally at resolutions in the region of 1440P rather than 4K and include dynamic resolution scaling to ease the load on the hardware.

No one has a consumer level 2K display. 2K displays are strictly for professional video work mostly in the movie industry

1080p is the consumer standard near that resolution

Everything you're asking entirely depends on the game, and the display you are using

The Xbox is capable of doing these things, assuming the software and the display allow it

I had the same issue using a Denon hdmi 2.1 AVR. I solved it using VRR with 120hz, but I have a hdmi 2.1 tv and a Series X, not One X. I guess you are stuck with 4k without vrr or full hd 120 and vrr. Another solution is to connect the Xbox directly to the tv and use arc/earc for audio, but One X does not support 4k 120hz, so you are stuck with full hd 120 if you use vrr.
