2FA being skipped when logging into account on Xbox One

My account also has 2FA and can only code from time to time or when I log into a new device. Probably as the console is a reliable device, it won't ask for the code every time you log in.

On a couple of occasions over the past month, when signing into my Microsoft account on my Xbox I am signed in right after entering my password. I have 2FA set up for my account, and when logging in on other platforms I am asked for a code in addition to my password before I can sign in. This is how it had worked previously on Xbox as well, however I am now only sometimes prompted for a code.

I'm not sure if anyone has any ideas as to why this is.

I was suspecting that it considered my xbox a trusted device so didn't enforce the second factor, though I never checked the box to stop requiring a code and this has persisted through several factory resets so I'm not fully certain.

Oh I see, yes, I'm afraid there's no option to skip it due to the 2fa being a security protocol, that you activate in order to protect your account. :/

And I see. But, that's odd, even reinstalling the game, it doesn't give you the option to log in again with a different account.

Try this Grayson:

Open the Xbox game bar (windows + G) > Settings > Accounts > find your account linked to Steam there, and click unlink > Open the game, and it should ask you to log in again. That should do the trick.

so awhile back I deleted the correct phone number on my 2fa instead of the phone number that needed to be deleted. the phone number that needed to be deleted has an extra digit so i can't even send the code to that number to get the code. so now when i try to log into my account i can't get the code to change my password. since i have 2fa the account recovery form won't work. is there any way for the correct phone number to be put back on the account.

When you first initially setup 2fa it would have given you several backup codes and told you to save them in a safe place.

When it asks for the code being sent to your phone number you can enter in one of those backup codes instead.

If you didnt save said backup codes then the account will be unrecoverable.
