My son has an xbox one and I have an xbox x but we can't use them both at the same time, I've made a separate profile thinking this would work and have tried following advice but nothing seems to work, either that or I'm not doing it right?.

No. only one child account per parent. If you have 2 children then you would have to have 2 parent accounts.

Have you set one of the consoles as both of your home xbox?

Is either account set for automatic login?

Can you elaborate what you mean by same time? The same game at the same time? Or just in general.
