2 accounts on 2 Xbox’s in one home - how do I set this up?

Hi all,

I have an Xbox One X which my two boys use.

I set them up on this with separate email accounts (both of which are my email addresses) so they could each have their own progress on the games they play. They effectively sign in and play and use one of the tweets accounts I setup.

I’ve just bought an Xbox Series X and want to set this up so that both the boys can play either Xbox and also play at the same time now.

What I don’t understand is how to do this “correctly”.

Do I set the new Xbox up like I setup the old one and let them add the accounts (email addresses) to it? Will it just work?

Or does the new Xbox need a 2nd Live subscription? Will the games be available on both at the same time or will a game only work on one at a time unless I buy the game again for the new Xbox?

I’ve read about setting one as Home and that sharing is allowed - but it’s not very clear how this all works if you want both to be used simultaneously and preferably by either of them.

One additional question - if I setup the new Xbox to have the secondary profile from the old Xbox as its main profile, and then take a 2nd Xbox Live subscription on it - does this then mean I effectively have 2 “Home” Xboxes?

They can sign in and use the same accounts they're already using on the new console. What will be difficult is sharing the games/subscription.

The Home setting is what allows profiles to share games/subscriptions. However, you can only set 1 console as your Home at a time. So you would only be able to share games/subscriptions on 1 console. The profile that purchases that content can sign in and use them on any console. So if the games/subscriptions are set up under 1 of your child's accounts, that child would be able to sign in and play on either console. The other child would only be able to use the games/subscriptions on the Home console.

They no longer have the family gold, I miss it myself. But you can have the one gold account set the xbox to home with that gold account and everyone who logs into that xbox will share the most of the gold privileges Or in your case do 2 golds and 2 home

I'll do my best to explain the Home console sharing and the best way you can go about sharing the subscriptions between their accounts. Every account can have only one Home console set as it's Home console at a time, but console's can have multiple accounts
added to it and be the Home console for those account's. Digital content and subscriptions at that point are shared between account on the same Home console.

Let's say you get both subscriptions on your account, with your current Home console set up, only your son's account would benefit from the subscriptions. Your account would be required to be signed in the background on Xbox 2 since Xbox 1 is the account's
Home console. Other accounts can use content another account owns as long as that account is signed in.

The only way to get this set up in a way where you don't have to by 2 of each subscriptions for both accounts is to purchase the subscription on one of the child accounts and you'll have to add that account to the other Xbox, set it as home, and the subscription
will be shared with the second child account. This may not be ideal since you said they do not share but this is logically the only way to have to pay for only one of each subscription with 2 different Xbox's at home. I recommend setting up a passkey to prevent
unwanted sign-ins if you do decided to go that route.
