  1. 1TB USB 3.0 external drive not working

    Merry Christmas!

So, for a present, I got a Toshiba 1TB external hard-drive. It's USB 3.0 (which is also USB 2.0 compatible) so it meets all the requirements. But it gives me only 976Gb of media storage?

    Here's the hard-drive I got:

If anybody has solutions/reasons as to why it doesn't work, I'll be very appreciative.

    :)

Unable to format external hard drive

Is the drive USB 3.0 compatible? If not that would be the reason that it is not working. The external drive must be USB 3.0.

    Buying External Drive today...any recommendations?

I've had great luck with Seagate or WD external hard drives, make sure there USB 3.0 (which all the new ones are) and at least 1TB

thats fine. your drive looks fine. just needs formatting for game storage instead if your looking to store games on it.

Hardware manufacturers create drives that are 1000GB = 1TB

it is different with software manufacturers who calculate 1TB as 1024GB

after formatting of the drive and system use it works out as 976GB, that would be the same on any console or computer, actually on a computer it would work out as 931GB.

when you go to system and storage on the x1 it should give you an option to format it, if it does not then hard reset the console with the drive attached, are you using a usb 3.0 cable though if not then it may not work without it.
