165 hz monitor not detect 4k 120 hz

This display isn't a fake 165Hz as per this review from Tom's hardware

It's still totally the wrong type of display for an Xbox console though. The reason being is because it's a WQHD Ultrawide. That's a PC centric resolution of 3440x1440 which has a 21:9 aspect ratio.

What does this mean? Well, the Xbox does not support Ultrawide resolutions. This means you've going to have to choose either 1080P or 1440P (1440P is 2560x1440), this will stretch the image to fill the screen, but as it's not the native screen resolution it will look blurred (and there is no way to correct this).

165 hz monitor not detect 4k 120 hz

Hello, Robby G. I'm Arturo, and I'll be glad to provide assistance with your inquiry today.

Is this the monitor you have?
    https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/3fa921b5

I ask this question because according to the article description, the monitor has a 2.0 HDMI port. (Check the connectivity tab)

So, it is important to clarify that in order to use 4K @ 120Hz, the screen needs to have a 2.1 HDMI port.

However, you can still use 120Hz by lowering the resolution.

    Reference link:
    https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/display-sound/4k-gaming-at-120hz

“4K gaming at 120 frames per second is available if you have ALL the following:
    An Xbox Series X console
An Ultra High Speed HDMI cable that supports HDMI 2.1
A TV that supports HDMI 2.1”

I hope you find this answer helpful to your inquiry. However, I'll remain attentive to any other one you may have.

    Kind regards,

    Arturo.

165 hz monitor not detect 4k 120 hz

This monitor is a nonstandard edition. and only supports up to 1440p

It's 165hz is also likely fake like most monitors and uses computer assist to make up for the basic electronics inside that are nowhere near fast enough for 120hz

If it's not a multiple of 60, and doesn't cost at least $500 for a standard 16:9 ratio, it probably won't do 120hz for Xbox.

    Xbox Series X doesn't support 1440p@120Hz with 1440p@144Hz monitor

I don’t think this is true. I plugged my series x into a gigabyte 1440p 165 hz monitor yesterday after my 4k Samsung qled backlight died. I think HDMI only supports up to 120hz (the monitor cable is required for 165 hz). Going through an HDMI switch, I cannot do 1440p 120 fps, but it has no issue doing 1080p 120hz. After I get an upgraded HDMI switch and a better HDMI cable today, I’ll see if that allows 1440p 120 fps.
