  1. 144hz Monitor doesn't Support 120hz mode

I have a 144hz monitor that I use a lot for my pc gaming.
Fast forward to today, my Xbox series s arrives in the mail. I at first set it up on my TV and think to myself, "why not try it with my monitor?" I set it up with the monitor I research it and find that Hdmi 1.4 (my monitor's HDMI Port) can do 120hz.
With my graphics card I use dual link dvi so hdmi was a new territory for me. I go to select the 120hz mode on my Xbox and it doesn't work.
I tried researching it but I can't find anything because my monitor is pretty old-but hey- 144hz 1ms response time is good no matter how old it is.
My question is, is there a way I can use the 120hz mode without needing to purchase a new monitor?
    My monitor is Asus VG278HV

    :)

    144hz Monitor doesn't Support 120hz mode

    Hi,

According to a manual I looked at, your monitor tops out at 60Hz over HDMI. It's only 120/144Hz over the Dual link DVI.

I can't see how any adaptors would work either in case you were wondering as they're dumb and won't be able to utilise the full bandwidth.

2k with 120hz XBOX ONE X not working with HP X27i

because that monitor supports 144hz but does not have 120hz as an option in the monitor edid for that resolution, pc can set manual resolutions, xbox cant and the monitor has to support or state it can do 120hz at 1440p in the edid for the xbox to use it.

    Xbox Series X doesn't support 1440p@120Hz with 1440p@144Hz monitor

Until you don't proof me this specific monitor (Xiaomi Mi Curved 34) enables 1440p@120hz with Xbox Series X, your comment is meaningless.

Yeah, there are some monitors with 1440p@120hz support for Xbox series s/x, that simply doesn't mean that ANY 1440p+ monitor with 120hz+ (especially 144hz+) can do it. Period.

I've tried everything, that (1440p@120hz) simply doesn't work with that monitor. I've already listed every step I've tried, I'm not gonna write it again.

Please read previous comments before posting the same dried comments...

    Xbox Series X doesn't support 1440p@120Hz with 1440p@144Hz monitor

Both the Series S and X can do 120Hz 1440P and 4K 120Hz when connected to a compatible display. The issue is one of timings. Your correct that these timings need to be one's that the Xbox Supports, not exactly what the display supports. The Xbox sticks to the VESA standard, PC monitors don't have to be made to this same standard as PC graphics cards can run at different timings.

For example, your display is rated for 144Hz and supports 120Hz, but for the 120Hz mode, might, in reality be 119.88. Not much off from 120Hz, but enough for the Xbox to not support it. I don't know the exact timings of your monitor as unfortunately, the manual doesn't say what they are.

It doesn't matter what cable you buy, if the timings are off, it won't work.

Then why does it support 120Hz @1080P?

Again, it's a timing issue. It probably runs at 120Hz at this resolution because the timings are an exact match at this resolution. Again, the manual offers no insight. It probably offers no information as this monitor seems to be mainly marketed towards PC gamers.

So the marketing is a lie then?

No, not exactly. Most budget friendly monitors are marketed towards PC gamers. PC graphics cards don't have to keep to exact timing standards. If your PC graphics card supports 1440P @144Hz it will work with a 144Hz monitor.

Will a HDMI to Display Port adaptor work?

It might, but more than likely it won't. Also, it's important to understand, this is a one way connector. So, an HDMI to display port might work, but a Display port to HDMI won't. These cable's are not bi-directional. They also need to be powered (active). Again, timings rear their ugly head again.

xbox one x wont run at 125hz unless at 1080p

    Hi,

The max refresh rate on One S and X is 120hz, but to get there you need a monitor or TV that supports it and supports it over HDMI. Some displays only support this over display port.

The S3220DGF doesn't support 120hz at all, only 60 and 144hz and the 144hz is only over Display port.

Best suggestions is find a monitor you like the look of and google its online manual PDF. You're looking for 120hz over HDMI. Remember that this is the
    vertical refresh rate.

Also be sure 1440P is 2560x1440 as this is a 1440P monitor, Xbox does not support ultra wide displays.

look at online reviews, manuals and YouTube vids of your display. Shouldn't go wrong with that.
