Update. I just activated the free trial successfully and when I did the 1 month for $1 deal disappeared from the list. So I guess I couldn't do 2 months for $1. Ah well.

The $1 deal is usually only offered to free members. So you might see it again after your month expires, but offers do vary.

Ah okay I have been a member for a while now but can't remember if I ever used the free gold trial. I saw it as an option on a webpage somewhere. I guess I could just try to see if it worked. I was just concerned that if I did the free trial and then did
the 1 month for $1 it would overwrite the free month. But for $1 I guess I couldn't complain! Thanks.

You're posting from a free account. I don't think you'll be able to activate the free month of Gold at this point: it's an offer when you are creating the Xbox Live account, and if you decline it you don't get another offer for that account. (At least,
that's how it used to work.)

If you purchase a 1 Month for $1 offer, you get the full Gold membership including Games With Gold. You are signing up for the recurring monthly subscription and billing if you do that, so be sure to turn off automatic renewal if you do not want to
keep paying for a Gold subscription at the regular monthly rate.

Yes 1 month is 20 days, but remember buying 12 1 month golds is way more expensive than buying 1, 12 months gold, hence why you get less for 12 months gold. 3 months gold = 2 months ultimate.
