0x80070002 error when installing apps

This appears to be a two fold issue, one of which I resolved. I'm getting 0x80070002 when attempting to install GamePass PC games to a different drive. I tried the services reinstall suggested by the help article for that code and waited with no luck. Installs work to the C drive no problem. If I attempt to install to another drive, the install errors out and gives the error code 0x80070002.

There are two scenarios where I have had different results:

1. If there exists a WpSystems and WindowsApps folders at the root of the problem drive, I can rename them with .old at the end, restart Windows, and install games to that drive once again. I consider those drives now usable as I can install games to them.

2. If there isn't a WpSystems and WindowsApps folder at the root of the problem drive, I still have the error. I attempt to resolve this by created the folders manually but it didn't work. restarting after manually recreating didn't help either.

Any ideas? The drives appear under the Settings>General screen of the Xbox app, but I can't select them. They just go right back to the last working drive as if I never clicked on them. Any attempts to select those drives at the time of install gives the error.

Tried all of the above before posting the issue and again after seeing your post. No change in behavior. I've seen that exact message in another issue related to this error and it didn't fix it for them either.

Packages and services all seem fine. It appears related to the folders/non-folders or how the apps are pointing to the drives.

Disable any antivirus programs, firewalls, VPNs, or other software that may interfere with the installation process.

Scan your PC for any corrupted files or malware and repair them using the System File Checker tool or a trusted antivirus program. You can also update your drivers and firmware for your PC and controller using the Device Manager or the manufacturer's website.

If this still doesn't work, try creating a new Windows User and see if it will still behave the same way on this new environment.

If you are experiencing error 0x80070002 when installing apps on your Xbox, you can try the following steps to fix it:

- Reinstall the Xbox app by opening PowerShell as administrator and running this command: Get-AppxPackage *xboxapp*| Remove-AppxPackage

- Download the Xbox app again from the Microsoft Store and check if the issue is resolved.
