    Hey everyone,

    With the industry pushing toward digital-only hardware ecosystems, those of us with massive physical collections (Original Xbox and Xbox 360) are facing a serious preservation crisis. If future consoles drop the optical drive completely, our physical libraries risk being left behind.

    To solve this, I’ve drafted a comprehensive concept called the Xbox Legacy Passport Initiative and submitted it directly to the new Xbox Player Voice portal for Asha Sharma and the engineering teams to review.

    The core idea is a premium, factory-backed "On-Demand" upgrade service:

    The Factory Upgrade: Players mail in legacy discs. Microsoft re-authors the data onto a modern, trackable Blu-ray substrate with a unique BCA barcode and original disc art printed directly onto the polycarbonate layer.

    Variable Pricing: To clear strict business balance sheets and rival developer royalty fees, pricing scales based on ownership. Cheap, raw-material costs for first-party Microsoft Originals ($10–$15 like Halo/Gears), and a premium processing toll ($25–$35) to cover mandatory publisher cuts for third-party games (like Splinter Cell).

    Mandatory Sunset Patches: Any multiplayer title facing server retirement must receive a final patch converting its backend architecture to a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) model so dedicated communities can host lobbies via home internet forever.

    pre xbox 360, 2002-2007 or so, moving content from one original xbox console to another original xbox I don't know if the Avalaunch is moved on disc or not that is my question how do I copy from one console to another.

    Hi there, so are you trying to play the digital version or the original disc? If it is the disc, then what region is it from as I don't think all regions work with backwards compatibility on the 360.

    Also are all the most current dashboard updates installed to the console? If you haven't connected the console to the internet, chances are you're not on the most current software update.

    I can confirm that Ninja Gaiden Black does work from the original disc for my region (PAL) so there has to be an issue with the console or game that you're trying to use.

    Hi Emerson,

    Original Xbox games were backwards compatible on Xbox 360's for quite awhile when the Xbox 360 was in it's prime by simply putting in the disc but I don't think backwards compatibility on the Xbox 360 works as well as it used to since backwards compatibility
    has moved on to the Xbox One. The Xbox One can play Xbox original games by simply putting in the disc or you can buy digital licenses.

    You can try inserting a disc into your Xbox 360 and see if it works but it may not be supported anymore.

    Only some original xbox games are playable on the 360.

    Very few are available digitally via the xbox live marketplace but for most of them you would need to find a disc copy & to be honest a lot of them run very poorly on the 360.

    Battlefront is playable but the online was shut down years ago.

    Robot Wars isn't but it was a pretty awful game.Just make sure you have an official Microsoft hard drive.
