How I got disc to digital working and what games I can play on my PC

There's been a fair few confusing threads on this in the build up to the alpha/beta release today, so hopefully this helps out those who are interested in disc to digital. Pre-requisites:

• You need to be on the Alpha or Beta build of the preview on Xbox. Ins hort that means you need to see "Alpha" or "Beta" in your list of options in the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox.
  • If it is your first time downloading the app, you'll likely not have the 'tenure' to be accepted in at this time. You need to have had the app for 3 months and get up to level 5 in their gamification thingy for the app. Fetails on that can be found here - https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/account-profile/manage-account/xbox-insider-program
• Once you are on that Alpha or Beta build on your Xbox, you can then perform a system update. This will give you the update that includes the disc to digital enhancement.
• Once the update is installed and you are back into the Xbox home screen, insert a disc, tap the menu button (three bars button... the right-side one) and you'll see the 'claim digital' option in your menu that was not there before. Follow the on screen prompts and if the game is eligible, then you'll have the game digitally!
  • Tip: You'll see a little disc icon with three little squares in the top right of the disc for any game that you have successfully done this with.
  • If someone else does the same thing with the same disc on another Xbox account, the word from Xbox is that you will then lose that license.

So, what about on PC... When I open the Xbox library on my PC, I can see (like before), all of my digital licenses. There are now new entries with the new disc icon mentioned above, but not all of these are playable on PC.

• When you filter by 'installable' (under 'Play state') you typically will get a significantly smaller list. This is due to the game not being available on the Xbox/Windows store for PC download. For example: I have 27 games that I was able to get digital entitlements for. Only 4 of them are installable:
  • Super Lucky's Tale
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • RoboCop: Rogue City
• When I filter by 'Cloud playable' (under 'Play state'), I have access to all 27 games (Game Pass Subscription required). I can't confirm this, but I believe this is because Xbox now lets you play your own disc based games via cloud... happy to be correcte don this point though as I'm guessing). For anyone interested, here are the 27 games I was able to get digital entitlements for:
  • The Witcher 3
  • Super Lucky's Tale
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • State of Decay 2
  • Rare Replay (This shows up as 10 entries in the library)
  • Rage 2
  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst
  • Mass Effect Andromeda
  • The Jackbox Party Pack 7
  • Homefront: The Revolution
  • Halo 5
  • Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order
  • RoboCop: Rogue City
  • Metro Exodus
  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition
  • The Falconeer
  • Skyrim Special Edition
  • Prey
  • Dishonored 2
  • Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition (The base game without the expansions also shows up in my library)
  • Call of Duty: Vanguard
  • Biomutant
  • Battlefield 2042

Some observations:

• Not all Microsoft properties work on this. Fallout 4 and 76 were notable exceptions
• All SEGA titles I tried did not work (Judgement games and Yakuza Games)
• Some games did get entitlements on the Xbox console but did not show up on the Xbox app, including FIFA 17, Titanfall 2, Middle-Earth Shadows or War, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption 2 and a few others.
• Sometimes a games sequel may work this this, but not the original. This happened for me with the Middle-Earth Shadows of series, with Mordor not working, but War did work. This was also the same situation with Titanfall 1 and 2.

Hope this helpful to some people and I'm happy to update this if any new information comes up (or corrections )
