Please enable generic USB Audio Class (UAC) support for DACs and Audio Interfaces

Hi everyone, and hopefully hi to the Xbox team.

I wanted to share a bit of a hassle regarding my audio setup on Xbox Series X and suggest a feature that would make a huge difference for many players.

Since the consoles lack an optical audio output, trying to connect a pair of active studio monitors (in my case it's Yamaha Hs7 and an Arturia Interface) or a generic audio interface requires some cables and some extra.

Right now, to get audio to my speakers, I have to route it through my monitor’s 3.5mm headphone jack into my audio interface input via splitter. This creates terrible ground loop noise, forcing me to plug the interface into a separate wall outlet or use some ground loop isolator just to get clean sound and keep using all the audio interface ports.

Since Xbox already has high-speed USB ports, the only thing missing should be the software implementation of the standard USB Audio Class drivers.

On PS5 and PC, you can plug in almost any USB DAC, interface, or microphone, and it just works (Plug-and-Play). On Xbox, we are locked behind the "Designed for Xbox" protocols.

I know licensing is a factor, but maybe with this listening to the community thing going on, removing this artificial barrier would be beneficial for the players and would align Xbox with console audio industry standards.

Thanks for reading! Maybe yall could suggest a better workaround.

TL;DR: We need universal USB Audio (UAC) support for generic DACs, audio interfaces, and speakers. PS5 and PC already do this seamlessly.

Will XBox Series X support external DAC/Amp hardware via USB?

I am also curious. I just want a small DAC/Amp and headphones.

Is USB audio supported? Would this work for sound and chat?

For most dac/amp combos for chat on xbox, I believe you'll need a Y splitter cable, put that in your controller and connect the Y splitter to your separate microphone (antlion, vmoda what have you) and your hdphns
into the dac/amp combo and your good to go with party chat and audio ( I believe!)

This is correct. Plug the Y into the controller and your mic into the mic half of the Y. Run the other half of the Y into an amp using either a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo ("line in") cable, or a 3.5mm to dual RCA adapter cable, depending on what kind of inputs
your amp has. In this case you won't need / can't use a DAC because the controller already does the conversion to analog for you.

With the current Xbox One, it is possible to use an optical (TOSLINK) cable of virtually any length to a DAC/Amp for game audio, then simply plug a mic into the controller for chat. I briefly looked into lavalier microphones (i.e., lapel mics) as a convenient
alternative to boom mics like the VModa / Modmic, but I haven't tried any.

With the upcoming XBox Series X, there's no clear path to getting game audio into a headphone except to pull it off of HDMI using a receiver, an HDMI switch/splitter with audio out, or possibly a TV with an optical out.

If the XSX will support general purpose audio out and USB microphones, that sort of opens up a lot more possibilities--although the console looks to be short on USB ports when you might need as many as 3 of them for a controller, a DAC and a microphone.

Bluetooth support would be a nice half-measure since there are some DACs that support Bluetooth as well as BT receivers like the Fiio BTR5 or Qudelix 5K that could allow you to beam game audio to the headphones or IEMs of your choice.

The silence on this thread is only reinforcing my suspicion that audio is simply not a priority for XSX. It never really has been, and that has created a circular tragedy where better audio support is not implemented because it's not seen as a priority,
and demand for better audio quality is stifled by a lack of support for it. LAME.

Where i can found xbox sound card certified for series X?

You cannot use a DAC or USB sound card with Xbox, unless one f them finally started including HDMI. Just use a standard audio receiver. that supports HDMI

Only issue here is I've heard that to use USB audio the device has to be certified by MS. So you may not be able to just plug in any USB audio device, DAC, Mic, etc, and have them work. That's my worry.
