Proposed Xbox Disc to Digital Implementation

I've seen the rumors of the above and think the following would work very well:

Scenario A: User A with existing disc that has not yet been converted to digital

    1. User A inserts disc
    2. Xbox reads disc and checks for existing matching digital license on Xbox servers
    3. Upon finding no matching license, Xbox displays a message like Congratulations, this game disc is eligible for a matching digital license in the Microsoft Store! with 2 buttons: Terms & Conditions, Redeem, and Do Not Ask Again
    4. Pressing Terms & Conditions shows the following (obviously very abbreviated, actual T&Cs will be much longer)
      1. Conversion to digital license is permanent and cannot be undone
      2. Playing digital license game requires internet connection (you'll see why later)
      3. Digital license is attached to disc and not to Xbox account
      4. User agrees that digital license may be transferred to another Xbox without their permission if inserted into that Xbox
    5. Pressing Redeem takes the user to the corresponding Microsoft Store game entry, where they are given the option to redeem the license and download the game. As the license is digital, the Xbox can play the game as long as
      1. The Xbox is connected to the internet
      2. The license has not been transferred to another Xbox (this requires an internet connection for verification)
    6. Pressing Do Not Ask Again prevents that offer from being displayed for that specific disc going forward. If User A wishes to convert later, they'll have to do so from the game's context menu in My Games and Apps. There is a global setting to disable conversion offers. This is the least likely feature to be implemented
Scenario B: User B buys disc with digital license from User A

    1. User B pays User A
    2. User A gives User B disc
    3. User B inserts disc
    4. Xbox reads disc and finds existing matching digital license on Xbox servers
    5. Upon finding matching license, Xbox displays message like To play this game, its license must be retrieved from the last Xbox it was transferred to. Transferring the license to this Xbox will remove the ability to play the game on the last Xbox the license was transferred to. Transfer game license only if you are the game's owner or have permission from the game's owner with 2 buttons: Transfer and Cancel
    6. Cancel takes User B to the Xbox home screen (or wherever they were before inserting the disc)
    7. If User B presses Transfer, Steps A4 to A5 happen
    8. The next time User A turns on their Xbox they will get a License for [Game] has been transferred to another Xbox with 2 links: See Game in Store and Transfer License back to this Xbox
    9. See Game in Store takes User A to the Microsoft Store entry for the game, where they can buy a digital license that attaches to their account
    10. Transfer License back to this Xbox presents to an Insert game disc to continue (this prevents physical game sellers from scamming buyers) window with a Cancel button
    11. Cancel takes User A back to the Xbox home screen
    12. Transfer License back to this Xbox produces the Steps A5 to A5 workflow

Stores, sellers, etc. would not have to verify discs as the buyer would simply go through Scenario B. Yes, this allows licenses to be stolen, same as physical games. No change there.

XB1 Game Sharing Could Still Happen

I will remain hopeful, this would be very positive for ms if implemented including discs and digital, thanks for posting

One Mans Gain is Another Mans Loss...

@Chain It wouldn't work for disc based games. As it was you could share every game you purchased along with any dlc for that game. With this proposed way I'd have to put my credit card info on the Xbox to download digital games and that's definitely a no
    go for me.

Anyone else unhappy about the policy reversal?

I assume we will be able to choose to download games digitally rather then operate under their previous proposals. Thos that want the old way get it with discs, those than want the new way get it with downloadable games, the best of both worlds?

New Xbox One Policies affect previous features?

    A. Maybe but with that alot changes (as y'all have seen)B. get rid of discs. They serve no purpose. C.can u share iTunes music? Didn't think so. With 24hr and DRM sharing digital was very possible. After crying and moaning, have be taken away. How else do
u propose they authenticate a digital copy w/I Internet? Pretty impossible.

Why pro-DRM people will get what they wan't.

And open themselves to lawsuit as its illegal to sell someone a product and then go back on that bill of sale. Its possible to implement policy on digital purchases but disc based operar ion will stay the same for the life of the console.
