An official in-console marketplace for reselling games would be a huge win for everyone

With most modern games, the disc has basically become a Proof of Ownership rather than the actual game. You can install it digitally, but without the disc inserted, the console tells you that you don’t own the game. The disc now mainly acts as a physical key that unlocks your license.
The only real remaining advantage of physical games today is the ability to resell or transfer them to someone else. Once everything becomes fully digital and tied to an account, that option disappears.
Here’s an idea that would benefit both players and Microsoft:
Create an official in-console marketplace where players can sell their games directly.
How it could work:
• You put a game up for sale → the game gets automatically locked on your console (you can’t play it anymore while it’s listed, just like if you were selling it at a garage sale).
• Another player buys it.
• You receive the money either in your Microsoft account balance or via bank transfer within 14 days.
• Microsoft could take a small commission (5–10%) on each sale, which could be shared with the publisher.
This system would be win-win:
• Players keep the ability to resell their games (something they value).
• Microsoft and publishers would finally make money on the second-hand market (which they currently get nothing from).
• It would reduce piracy incentives for people who want to try games without paying full price.
• It would give real value back to buying games, whether physical or digital.
The first company (Microsoft or Sony) that implements something like this cleanly would gain a huge positive image. Right now, a lot of players feel like they’re losing rights with the shift to full digital. Being the first to offer a fair, official resale system would be a strong move.
