The Original Xbox as a Mini Console

It makes more sense for them to continue to make more original Xbox game BC rather than sinking money into a whole new "mini console". Plus they reach more people with bc. Not everyone is going to want to spend money on a console the way the did for nintendo.
It's just a different market.

I like you're idea, but it's unlikely to happen. At least not yet anyway.

There are a number of reasons why, but I'll get to that, bear with me. You've probably noticed there's a bit of thing lately for mini Retro console's. Nintendo released both the NES mini and the Super NES (or SNES) Mini. Sega brought out a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis
Mini, and Sony jumped on board with their no so great PlayStation Mini.

None of these machine's use the original hardware that made them great. In fact, they all run on a variety of different types of ARM based systems or SoC's (system on a chip). ARM processors power the majority of Smart Phones and tablet computers. These
mini consoles play games via software emulation using ARM. No one makes the original chips that powered them anymore.

Using an ARM chip to emulate the hardware of the NES or SNES isn't very demanding, these machines came out in the early 80's and 90's respectively and contain basic hardware by today's standards.

The original Xbox is a different type of beast entirely. It contained an Intel Celeron processor @733Mhz and and NVIDIA graphics processor. Neither Intel or NVIDIA make this hardware anymore and Microsoft don't hold the rights to it anyway.

To emulate that kind of hardware using a low powered cheap ARM SoC just isn't feasible, technically or economically.



It's one of the main reasons why Nintendo are unlikely to release an N64 mini anytime soon. Cheap ARM hardware has a real problem emulating the hardware correctly.

That is indeed correct. I tried it myself. 2nd player only occurs in mini-games. It would be the same with the Kinect function as well as the original Xbox 360 version.

The Xbox Mini seems a little unneccessary, unless they add original Xbox games to it. A regular Xbox 360 is 50 bucks less. I'm not going to buy the Durango/Nextbox until its <300$.

Damn, I originally read the title as $100,000 not sure why, but with that kind of money I would build a mini gaming house and separate the space to make different rooms and build the TV's and speakers into walls and have different consoles in the different
rooms. That would be sweet.
