With the next Xbox generation getting closer, I keep wondering if Microsoft underestimated how important “next-gen identity” is for mainstream buyers.

Do you think Xbox Series would’ve performed better if Microsoft had:
    1. Included the official rechargeable battery pack with every controller instead of standard AA batteries.
    2. Designed a distinct next-gen dashboard instead of reusing the Xbox One UI almost unchanged.

The hardware itself was great, but sometimes it felt like Xbox focused too much on ecosystem continuity and not enough on making the new generation feel truly new. I’m genuinely curious how aware this community is of that possibility, and hopefully Microsoft learned from it going into Project Helix.

    Problem with Xbox one

The Xbox One controller's use of replaceable standard AA batteries (or a battery pack) is a pro, not a con. I hope MS never changes that. The PS4 controller has worse battery life (frankly, pitiful) from what I've read, and the battery is not designed to
be user replaceable (which means that the controller is trash if the battery malfunctions or stops holding a.charge, which it will eventually). You are also stuck having to use a cord if your PS4 controller battery dies while you are playing. I just pop another
set of rechargeable AA batteries in my Xbox One controller. It's like some people have never heard of regular rechargeable AA/AAA batteries... 4 good quality Eneloop rechargeable AAs and a basic charger will set you back less than a play and charge kit and
    provide much more versatility.

Next gen controller, what are your thoughts?

Why do people like rechargeable batteries? You're forced to use the built in batter pack and be connected by cable when it's charging. Personally, I want them to keep using AA batteries because it offers more choice. I can use my two sets of rechargeable
batteries and change between them when the battery is low. Also, I hope the controller has a new design, even though I absolutely love the Xbox One controller, it's exciting getting a new console with a new ui and a new controller.

    1.2V vs 1.5V

    Hi there,

I can't find anything regarding the voltage that can be used, but what I did find is that it's not recommended to use rechargeable AA batteries. Which is mentioned on this link:

    https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/accessories/using-aa-batteries

    It states:

For the best performance, rechargeable AA batteries are not recommended.

I know it doesn't directly answer your question, but since it is related to rechargeable batteries I wanted to share it.

Changes That Should Be Made to The Xbox One

But if it vibrates the way it does like a magnitude 6 earthquake for 6 hours straight, it's going to pretty much drain the batteries quickly. I also have energizer rechargeable batteries and have an energizer charger which charges 4 AA/AAA batteries from
0-100% in 36 minutes. It's green, and it saves wasting money on single-use disposable batteries which are not quite as environmentally friendly as rechargeable batteries.

Many people seem to not like that Windows 8 UI M stuck on an Xbox console. Sometimes it feels like the console with an 8 core processor and 8GB RAM is running Windows Vista, and I have Fibre internet. Microsoft has updated/changed the UI many times on Xbox
360 so they'll do the same on Xbox 1, especially when Windows 10 releases worldwide this month which I'm excited for. Xbox 360's UI is really good, and it runs on weaker hardware than Xbox 1, which proves UI performance isn't based solely off hardware or your
    internet.

    chargers

A micro USB cable will not charge rechargeable AA batteries. It should charge the battery pack from the P&C kit.

Keep in mind it cannot safely charge rechargeable AA batteries. There's more than one chemical mix used to create AA rechargeable batteries. That's why the P&C kit packs use a different set of terminals inside the controller.
