Xbox achievement preservation issue: missing WP7/WP8/Win8 titles on modern dashboards

I wanted to bring attention to an issue affecting legacy Xbox Live games from the Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 8, Windows 8 PC, iOS, and GFWL era.

Over the last while, we’ve actually seen some nice improvements made to the Xbox achievements and profile ecosystem under Asha Sharma and the Xbox team, like 4K achievement art, the ability to hide games, pin games, and other profile improvements. It’s good seeing achievements and Xbox profile identity getting some attention again, which is part of why I wanted to bring attention to this issue.

I’ve noticed over the years that many Xbox Live games from the Windows Phone 7/8, Windows 8, iOS, and GFWL era are missing from modern Xbox achievement profiles. The achievements still unlock correctly through Xbox Live, still count toward your total Gamerscore, and still exist within the Xbox API, but the games themselves are simply missing from the Achievements section of your profile on modern Xbox platforms.

What makes this especially strange is that these games still show properly on Xbox 360 consoles and profiles and still track correctly through TrueAchievements. Some of them even still have active Game Hubs/Game Bar integration on Xbox One/Series consoles. In some cases, unlocking an achievement from one of these games will still make it appear in your recently unlocked achievements feed, yet the game itself still will not properly appear afterward in your full achievements list on Xbox One, Series X|S, the Xbox app, or newer Xbox profile pages.

There are also cases where certain legacy titles appear to be missing achievement art or game art entirely on modern Xbox platforms, even though the achievement data itself still exists and functions. This further makes it seem like parts of the legacy Xbox Live profile ecosystem are no longer being surfaced or rendered correctly by newer profile systems.

So, the games and achievements clearly still exist and function normally within Xbox Live, they just are not being surfaced properly on modern Xbox platforms anymore.

This creates a pretty major achievement preservation issue because people are basically losing visibility of parts of their Xbox history even though the games and achievements still exist and still work.

Because of that, this doesn’t really seem like the achievements were deleted. It feels more like modern Xbox profile systems are no longer properly surfacing certain older title families from the WP7/WP8/Win8 era.

This may seem niche, but the Windows Phone and Windows 8 Xbox Live ecosystem was still a real part of Xbox history, and right now parts of that history are basically invisible on modern platforms.

Would love if someone from Xbox Insider or the Xbox engineering/profile team could look into this.

Also, curious if anyone else has noticed missing games or achievements from their profile, especially older mobile, Win8, or GFWL Xbox Live titles.
