Why did my Micro SD card randomly become write protected?

Around a month ago, I put a different Micro SD card in my computers adapter than usual, and it was write protected, I didn't think much of it and just put my regular one back in, but that one was write protected too

I searched the internet for how to get it to work (I had nothing important on there so i was willing to do anything) but nothing worked, Not the Registry Editor, Not diskpart, checking the switch, nothing

Recently, i got a new adapter as it didn't work in any other computer, but the Micro SD card itself worked fine, i got a new Micro SD just in case, however, neither of these worked when i put them in my computer, even though it worked fine in a different computer

My main worry is if its something up with my own computer, but I'm not sure what, far as i know, if it was a problem with the port, it wouldn't read at all, but its just stuck in readonly

I wasn't miffed that the adapter wasn't working, it was 5 years old (5 years past its seemingly usual expiration date)

    :)

I can't download Xbox Game Pass onto an Micro SD card

No as they have to be stored encrypted folder on a hdd or ssd

A SD card wouldn't haveenough read write speed and isn't practical for game storage

You gotta remember games read and rwrite constantly

It would wear out your SD card fast

And yes SD cards have limited life expectancy a lot less then a hdd would 10k read and writes at best

A micro SD card even at the 533x is only 80-100 mbps this also causes extreme heat

A hdd would be 200-800 mbps per second over usb even faster internally

    Then you are talking gbps

Desktop Apps and games arent like mobile games they take a lot more processing and reading and writing to cache then mobile games and you are talking about gigabytes more space

Hdds and ssd have built-in caches which help speeds things along

SD cards aren't meant for constant reading and writing they are meant for backups or storage that's it

Xbox app stores games on encrypted storage folders your SD card reader wouldn't be able to keep up with your download

This ia also whynyou cant download directly onto yours card on phones

You have to download to nand storage before moving to your sdcard

This is why it takes so long to copy files ovrr

Most SD cards will only read at certain speeds but for writing it's a lot less

20-50mbps depending on your card unless you are spending a lot like hundreds it's not likely extreme you have to read the specs on your card most standard micro SD would be 20-40mbps max

    Flash Drive Write-Protection Issue

Some Memory card / Pen drive have written protection switches When it enabled they prevent files from being deleted, It also stops you from accidentally formatting your Memory card/Pen drive. It’s a positive side of write protection.

But! Sometimes, while trying to format, your Windows will tell that “This drive is write protected” and will refuse to format even after disabling the write protection switch (if there’s any).

And nowadays the old tricks are not working properly because of some errors. but don’t worry !!! I have got a new method to remove write protection from SD card. Not only one!!!

Here is the link to get more details about remove write protection ....

USB is now unformatted, I have lost everything!

Have you tried putting the usb back in the other xbox to see if it works...or does it tell you to format on both consoles?

I use a card reader since I can get a bunch of 16gb micro sd cards for dirt cheap. I normally use a single usb card reader with an sd adapter and I always swipe out the micro sd depending on what I want to access. (each card with different contents)

I also have a multi card reader that has ports for everything. I once tried to use that on my xbox with the micro card only and it told me I needed to format. I then tried to put the micro in the adapter and then put that into the multi reader and I still needed
to format. This is when I freaked out! I then put the adapter in my original card reader and it worked.

My advice for future purposes is to always copy files, I dont care about wasting 2 minutes when it will protect my 50+ hours of save data.

    download

That's a physical lock on the side of the SD card, but that's only on standard SD cards, or micro SD cards adapters, you are using the SD card directly right? I forgot that is a surface 3 sorry

Try to format it on Fat32 please
