Xbox Series X; No sound from TV

My Series X has had no audio for a bit over a month, the Xbox itself will make the starting up sound but then nothing from the TV. When I go to volume & audio output settings it won't let me change anything with the speaker audio, and the message "Your TV connection is set to DVI. For sound, you'll need an optical audio cable. If you are using an HDMI cable, switch your TV connection to an HDMI setting.", comes up at the bottom.

The audio output on my TV is currently set to TV speakers, and it doesn't have any other settings for HDMI inputs specifically, however, it is a Roku TV so selection is limited. I have also tried the Xbox on a Sony X90CL and it has had the same issues, as well as my old TV which was an ancient Sanyo.

I've tried using different HDMI cables, different HDMI inputs, resetting the console, and as mentioned different TVs.

Is there a way to get the audio to work with just an HDMI cable, or will I need to connect it with a DVI? It has worked in the past with HDMI and I didn't change it in anyway since, originally I thought it just stopped communicating with my old TV but it's been persistent. Everything else about the console is fine, it's just the audio.

    Thank you

    :)

Xbox Series X; No sound from TV

Hi, Elliott! Thank you for reaching out.
I'm AJ, an Independent Advisor for the Xbox Community.
I'm sorry you are experiencing issues with your console.

If you don't mind, could you go to Settings > General > TV & Display settings > Video fidelity & overscan, and make sure "Overrides" is set to "Auto-detect (recommended)" or "HDMI"?

Once this is done, please try changing your speaker audio settings or running the "Audio Setup" tool at Settings > General > Volume & Audio output.

Please let me know if this works, I'll be looking forward to your reply.
    Best regards.

Certain games on my Xbox series x launch with no sound

I too have an Xbox Series X connected to a Samsung TV and a Sonos Beam. The set up up is Series X to Samsung TV via HDMI and TV to Sonos Beam via HDMI ARC.

I get sound fairly consistently from start up, however if I play a game for a couple of hours and then return to the dashboard I have no sound on the dashboard or on anything else I try to open within the dashboard menu. If I go back into the game I was playing I get sound within that game but nothing else. The only way to resolve this is turning off for a longer period or unplugging the HDMI from the Xbox into the TV for an instant fix. This isn’t an adequate fix though, especially for a wall mounted tv.

When I experience these issues, if I change source to normal TV, I have sound as normal with no issue. But the second I go back to the Xbox source, there is no sound. Therefore I too believe this is an issue on the Xbox side but would be helpful if this can be categorically confirmed.

Has anybody managed to get any further with the root cause of the issue/permanent workarounds?

    Thanks in advance.

Xbox Seriex X - Atmos 7.1 Audio Clipping

    Same issue here.

I’ve got my Series X hooked up to a brand new LG C2 using the HDMI cord that came with the Series X.

I’ve got an Atmos-enabled Vizio sound bar (5.1 + two height speakers in the sound bar) hooked into the TV’s HDMI-Arc port.

I have no issues with Atmos sound when playing games on Series X. I have no issues when watching Atmos-compatible movies in streaming apps like Apple or Disney+.

But, when I play an Atmos-enabled 4K Blu-ray Disc on the Series X blu-ray app, I get this weird audio buffer after a few minutes. The movie may go 20 minutes without, but once is starts going it gets more consistent. This issue persists regardless of which Atmost-enabled 4K Blu-ray I use.

I’ve tried messing with the settings - switching back and forth on allowing pass through, etc.

Funny thing is, on my older TV (a TCL Series 6 which was not VRR or 120 hz compatible) I had zero issues. My Series X would play Atmos 4K blu-rays no problem. Only difference I can think of is that on my old setup I hooked the Series X directly into the input of the sound bar and then output from the sound bar into the TV (it was the only way I could get Atmos to work on the old TCL Series 6). On my current set up with the LG C2 I don’t do that because passing the Series X through the sound bar would take away the VRR and 120 hz capabilities my new TV can do.

    Can anyone help?
