    Call computer technician at: 855-337-1916

    The above message flashed across my XB1 screen minutes ago while using the Microsoft Edge browser App on my console. I had been trying to watch a YouTube clip on my xbox, and was instructed to sign-in. When I clicked the sign in button I was instructed to
    go to "youtube.com/activate". Being lazy, and not wanting to get off the couch, I just opened Edge and entered the URL... BAM!!! I get a virus warning with audio, telling me I'm going to be locked out d/t to my system being infected.

    I Googled the phone number and found that it's a phishing scam. I then call Microsoft Xbox One support. I spoke to a lady named "Rosalie", who wanted me to change my setting to block EVERY website, except those that are entered into the allowed list on xbox.com
    (part of parental controls). She also wanted me to delete my browser history. When I asked why, she hung up on me.

    Xbox runs on a Windows type of software architecture, is fully open to internet for browsing & streaming. Where are the "Firewall" setting & malware protection? Not even Windows Defender is included. Is the latest Security & Privacy leak on Microsoft's gaming
    systems?

    Hey there FALCON TRAIN,

    It's not possible to get a virus on the Xbox One console, are you referring to a Windows 10 PC? If so, you'll want to use a virus scanner/remover to help with that. There wouldn't be anything we can do on the Xbox forums to help further with that though.

    Hi,

    The Xbox console family can't get viruses for a number of reasons:

    • Xbox One consoles are locked down machines that can only run code that is 'digitally signed' from Microsoft.
    • They don't run Windows. While they have elements of the Windows OS, it does not compare to a PC OS at all. Because of this, no virus out there would even work on an Xbox console.

    There are phishing threats you should still be careful of. Make sure websites you visit and enter log-in details into are legitimate. No virus immune or protected system will ever protect you from phishing or online scams.

    They've never done draws for that sort of prize on LIVE but check it then record it as a scam with keywords on the forum if it is a phishing scam.
