Youtube app not turning on HDR on HDR videos? (Series X)

Not sure what's going on. When I try to watch an HDR video via the Youtube app on the Series X, it just plays the video without HDR. This worked fine on the One X and works fine via the Youtube app that's installed on my 4K/HDR TV (Samsung KS8000). HDR games on the Series X like Forza Horizon 4 also work.

Uninstalled/Reinstalled the Youtube app no avail. Anyone else with a 4K/HDR try the YT app on the Series X and verify if HDR is properly working? Is this something Youtube needs to update? Is the Series X app different from the Xbox One X app? Worked there but not on the new console. Odd.

4k HDR Clips Uploaded To Youtube Lose Color

    https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7126552?hl=en

On the link you can find the description how it should work.

    "

Upload High Dynamic Range (HDR) videos

You can upload High Dynamic Range (HDR) video content to YouTube. HDR videos show higher contrast and more colors than standard digital video.

Viewers can watch HDR videos on compatible mobile devices and HDR TVs. They can also stream HDR videos using Chromecast Ultra to an HDR TV. Viewers can confirm HDR playback when a video is played if they see an "HDR" badge on the playback controls or in
    the quality menu.

Viewers watching on non-HDR devices will see the video as a standard dynamic range (SDR) video.

    Upload HDR videos
HDR videos must have HDR metadata in the codec or container to be played back properly on YouTube. The most reliable way to properly record the metadata is to https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7126552?hl=en#davinci_resolve.

If you use a workflow for color grading that doesn't export standard HDR metadata, then you can use the https://github.com/youtubehdr/hdr_metadata to add HDR metadata to a video. This
tool will only work correctly if your video was graded using an HDR transfer function.

Note: If you aren't sure if your video was graded using an HDR transfer function, using this tool will badly distort your videos. Many things that have "HDR" in the title were not graded with an HDR transfer function, and
this tool will not work on those videos. If you did not grade your own content in HDR, or don't know what it means to color grade a video, you should not use the YouTube HDR metadata tool.
If you are grading your video, take care to grade in Rec. 2020 with PQ or HLG. Using a different configuration, including DCI P3, will produce incorrect results.

Once a video has been properly marked as HDR, uploading it follows the same process as a normal video upload. YouTube will detect the HDR metadata and process it, producing HDR transcodes for HDR devices and an SDR downconversion for other devices.

Note: HDR videos currently can't be edited with YouTube Web editor.

    HDR video requirements
Once you upload a video, YouTube supports all resolutions and will auto-convert HDR video to SDR videos when necessary.

White Flickers while watching movies/streaming? 4k UHD 60hz monitor no HDR

I had the same / similar issue with my old 4K 60hz none HDR / HDMI 2.0 monitor when watching movies and some times in games with the Series X,

As soon as i upgraded my monitor to a 4K 144hz monitor that has HDR / HDMI 2.1 ports, i no longer had this problem,

I'm not sure what the problem is, but my guess is that the HDMI 2.1 port on Series X doesn't play well with HDMI 2.0 port of monitors, or it's the Series X trying to force HDR on, even if the monitor does not have / support HDR and the HDR in Series X menu's is turned off.

    Elevated HDR Black Levels

Same problem here... With my Sony Bravia x90e (KD-55XE9005).

All is checked with a green mark in the video settings of the console (4k, HDR, etc.).

The correct HDMI input is used on the TV and the enhanced feature is activated (to allow 4k and HDR)

My TV activate de HDR logo during HDR content... But for some reason all HDR contents look washed out.

It is like the console send a picture for HDR that is not processed correctly by the tv ...

The black levels and colors are far better with the HDR option deactivated in console.

I have no HDR problems with internal apps of the tv or with the PS4.

Take a look at this :

"Xbox One X als UHD Blu-ray Player: SDR besser als HDR?"

    in youtube

I have the exact same problem with HDR as in the video

Moreover, in games, I see no differences with the HDR feature activated or deactivated (tested with CoD WWII and Assassin's Creed O). You should uncheck HDR (in console) and see if there is a real difference ingame...

Xbox One X \ HDR DVR Videos \ YouTube Friendly

unfortunately this is a youtube problem i would try and contact them
This is not true, the problem here is not with YouTube.

I have 5 sources of HDR videos, all which work just fine with YouTube, except for Xbox One X DVR.

The problem is with the substandard way Xbox encodes and describes HDR metadata in the produced MP4 file. And this should be fixed.

Xbox Oe X Scorpio HDR Washed Out

Take a look at this :

"Xbox One X als UHD Blu-ray Player: SDR besser als HDR?"
    in youtube

I have the exact same problem with HDR.

Moreover, in games, I see no differences with the HDR feature activated or deactivated

Thats strange because I have exactly same TV and difference With or without HDR is huge and colours are not washed out in games
Games are fine. It is HDR Video content from Netlfix, Amazon, and Bluray Player that is having the issue.
