Anything is possible. Sometimes developers reboot the franchise and make a great game after a long line of stinkers. But sometimes they give up on the franchise entirely believing that people are just no longer interested. Never even considering the possibility
that maybe they just made a bad game. I hope that one day we will see an other great Silent Hill game. But I won't hold my breath.

Bioshock was creepy

Also I played Dead space 3 but it wasn't very scary, it had its moments though.

The fan base is certainly there, but the question that needs to be asked is how much more bad Silent Hill games the fans are willing to tolerate before abandoning the franchise?

I am still hoping for another GREAT Silent Hill game too, but that means that the developers actually need to take their time in creating a "high quality title" rather than a "quick cash title".

You know what I'd like?

I think developers put a LOT of effort into atmosphere and that's great and everything, but I think if a story is well-written, it can be far scarier. I think this is what seems to be lacking in most games in the horror genre. I play them and feel empty.
I've seen too many severed heads rolling about. I want something that is going to connect with me cerebrally.

 

I think the story in bioshock is what made it so creepy.

Fatal Frame 2

Honorable mentions: Silent Hill Downpour, Resident Evil(remake), Condemned : Criminal Origins, FEAR.

 

Resident Evil. Everytime I play Moonlight Sonata it takes me there.

F.E.A.R. That game freaked me out.

Manhunt. Scary in the sense of how can this game be made. How to murder somebody the most gory way. Kudos ????

 

The original Doom on my dad's PCjr kept me up at night..... the creepy noises, etc.....

Yes...Doom was a good, scary game.

I agree with you regarding the fact that while it is nice to have a creepy environment & atmosphere in horror games, the story has to be interesting too.

Also, I would like to add the fact that while rewarding the player for killing an enemy with money / credits or whatever works in other games, it doesn't work in the Survival Horror genre at all.

The tension in Survival Horror games is knowing when to fight and run away. Rewarding the player with money / credits after each kill removes this element because the player will just buy more ammo / make their weapons more powerful as opposed to having
the need to find ammo / gun upgrade parts.

Honestly, the Doom series is the only horror game that I can think of that gives the players bucket loads of ammo and still scare you.

Normally, this situation (giving the player tons of ammo + the horror genre) don't go well together.

If you have an ios device like an ipad, there is a really scary game called Haunting Melissa. It's soooooooooo good!!!! *squeal* It's like a movie really, I guess it's more like a movie than a game, but I loved it. I highly recommend it.

I was trying so hard to remember the name of that game last night. (The Suffering)

I remember liking it and that it was scary. It's been such a long time though, it's rather faded in my memory.

 

That's one game I would like to see a fully upgraded Xbox One version of.
