Your External Device Is Now Ready, even though I was playing a game off the External Drive ...

Has anyone managed to resolve this, do Microsoft even acknowledge this is a problem,

This issue is becoming a real pain in the **** especially mid game!

    I found this from a previous support user;

"try toggling the Settings > Power > ”When Xbox is off, turn off storage” option – some drives will perform better with this option deselected."

This makes no difference what so ever and has no real relevance to the actual problem.

Also I don't fancy waiting for updates like I did with Destiny off of your pants network. I have to leave the drive powered on to download updates whilst I sleep, Destiny 17GB update took about 10 hrs, Shadow of Mordor on steam 32GB 3hrs.

Any advice on this would be appreciated, I have had to move the games I play most/multiplayer back to my internal storage.

    :)

External Hard Drive Message of "Ready" constantly appears, crashes my game.

Having a recurring issue for the past month where any game I have loaded onto my external hard drive that's plugged into my Xbox One crashes while I am playing it and then within 10 seconds a message appears that my external storage device is "Ready". It
is a 7200 RPM 500GB drive. What is the fix for this? I haven't had a problem with this drive ever, now the last month it is happening constantly.

Does USB3.0 of Xbox One support UASP?

Are you guys buying the cases for better heat disaption and longevity in the external drives? Just wondering of that is a concern with playing games off an external drive. I will need one very son since I'm up to 83% on my internal drive already.

    Pain Reigns,

Are you using a self powered external drive or one that draws power from the USB? I know that some non-self powered external drives can cause this issue. Also, you may have some corrupted data on the drive. I would suggest moving what games you can to
the internal drive and then reformatting your external drive, and then move it back. If none of that works you may want to look into getting a self powered external hard drive, or replacing the enclosure with one that has it's own power source. This is what
I had to do and have run into no problems since. Let me know if this helps, if it doesn't we can try to find another way to troubleshoot the issue.

xbox one turning off in like 10seconds after turning on

yeah not a newb i did all that. So i reset the xbox by pressing power button, eject button and controller sync button and reset it. it reset it and started working fine, once i plugged external drive in it shut off. Now that i took it out it still turns
off automatically. I plugged the external drive and the PC isn't recognizing it. Can a bad external drive mess your xbox up? i was gonna try to reset it again and not use external drive this time. I never heard of a bad external drive shutting a device down.
Could this really be the problem? a bad external drive.

    Installs disappearing?

Is it possible that your Xbox One is no longer recognizing your external hard drive. If your games are installed on that drive, then that would be why they are now in the ready to install section.

Xbox Series X eternal hard drive

    Hi,

If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.
