Your disc drive will fail too!

I rarely use the Disc Drive.

 

humans are imperfect. no one is perfect. thus this is the result of the things they make. i ha e xbox 1 day 1 got it at launch and disc drive still works same for my xbox 360 slim console i got 2010.

My disc drive doesn't read discs sometimes but if I hold the disc longer when it trys to pulll it in it reads them. I've had my XB1 since week one of it's release. It's also my go to for watching blu-ray movies and it's still chugging away. Knock on wood.

 

I have a Day One Edition and I think the disc drive is on it's way out. It reads discs first attempt if I hard reset the console though (holding the power button down for 10 seconds), which makes me think it might be a software issue caused by the latest
update rather than a hardware one.

lol Optical drives on the Original Xbox Console were junk. It took until 2004 for them to finally choose a manufacture of Quality Optical Drives.

Xbox 360 Phat (early gen 360's) were OK at best, but the Slim got an Optical Drive upgrade that were next to bullet proof. Don't know about the E models Optical Drives.

Xbox One's hit the market with a few broken Optical Drives right out of the box. Search "Day One Xbox One Drive noises/misreading..."

My X1, I have used for hours on end play Borderlands over the past 3 weeks, and thus far the only problem I have had is the system asking me if I own this game with the Disc in. Take out and reinsert the Disc, and all's well again. (Knock on Wood)

So I can only hope the Optical Drive is a quality one that will last long past warranties end.

Personal note: Do not put your finger in the center hole on the disc while inserting it. The Optical Drive will suck in the Disc faster than you'd expect it to. Thought I would loose my finger when it happened to me. That thing will not release the disc
until seconds later forcing you to loose some skin in order to get your finger out. Very painful.

 

That's one reason I go with Digital Games. It removes one point of failure and I really don't get enough on old disks on trade in to worry with them anyway.

 

microsoft doesnt make all the components on the xbox 1 console. xbox 1s usually have a philips disc drive. unlike xbox 360 and ps4, xbox 1's disc drive isnt designed to function placed upright or vertically thats why the console has to lay flat. they probably
went with a cheap drive to cut down costs of the console. sony sells the ps4 at a loss but they expect to conpensate though ps plus just like xbox has xbl gold subcriptions.
