    I'm not able to change the guest passkey for access to our Xbox.

    I have a parent account and my two boys have child accounts. I have used Microsoft's time limit features for a few years. My 13 year old had a friend over and they wanted to use a guest account and to extend the time limits. I gave my son the guest passkey
    as a result.

    That turned out to be a mistake, as thereafter my son started to use the guest passkey to circumvent the time limits set through Microsoft's family settings. I have tried to change the guest passkey for several weeks with no success. Here is what happens:

    1. When I access "Signed Out Content Restrictions," I can briefly see some text, and then receive the message "Your content restrictions are in effect, but can't be changed until we connect to the service."

    When I select "Close" I then see three columns of text ("Create a guest key . . ., Access to Content, and "If a child on this console has screen time limits . . . ") but there are no options to take any actions - no checkboxes, etc., except a greyed out
    checked checkbox for "Let people download & make new accounts."

    2. When I access "Privacy and Online Safety" and then "Xbox Live Privacy," I receive the following message: "Try again. There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again."

    3. When I access "Content Restrictions," I receive the following message: "Your content restrictions are in effect, but can't be changed until we connect to the service.."

    4. When I access "Family Settings," I am also not able to do anything.

    a) When I select "My sign-in, security and passkey," the message is "Check back soon. We can't get data for your settings."

    b) "Manage Family Members" yields the following message: "We couldn't get your family info from Xbox Live."

    c) "Signed-Out Restrictions" leads to the same error message as in 3. above.

    I've been at this for at least 8 weeks. I've spent hours at this point working on this issue. I've confirmed I'm connected to Xbox live. These error messages come up every time I try, and I've tried 10+ time. It's therefore not an issue with the Xbox
    Live service or with my network connection. I've refreshed the console, both soft refresh and full factory refresh. I've called Microsoft and spent 30+ minutes on the phone with a tech. That was 3 weeks ago. She indicated Microsoft couldn't do anything
    further at that time on the call, and would look into the error and email me. I never heard back.

    Please let me know what I need to do in order to change the guest passkey on my Xbox.

    Thank you. Yes, I have been trying to do this with an adult account.

    I took your suggestions and they did not work. I unplugged my network hardware and console, let everything reset, received an Internet connection, and plugged the console back in. I received the same message.

    I also switched my wifi network (we have two). Same messages. I then plugged in an ethernet cable. Same messages.

    Please let me know what I need to do in order to change the guest passkey on my Xbox.

    Thanks for posting here on the Xbox forums. Wow, seems like you have quite the issue to troubleshoot here. You were on the Adult account when attempting to

    remove the Guest key from the Xbox
    , correct?

    Based on what was already performed, we recommend trying out some network troubleshooting. I see you mentioned that you don't believe it to be a network issue, we think it might be, based on the message you receive. If you have already performed these steps,
    let us know. Be sure to add any other steps that are not already listed on your original post.

    First thing would be shutting off your console and having it unplugged. After you do that, unplug your network hardware. If you have a modem and router, unplug both. Leave your network hardware unplugged for at least 5 minutes to give the hardware time to
    reset.

    Plug in your network hardware after the five minutes pass. Once you have an internet connection again, you can plug in your console and turn it on.

    You may also want to try enhancing your network connection. If you are on WIFI, try an ethernet cable connection from your router to your console. If you are already hard wired, try a different cable or a different ethernet port on your router.

    It worked :) thank you! I can purchase now. However when I go into Settings> Privacy and online safety, it still says Your privacy settings are in effect, but cannot be changed until we connect to the service and it says the same for content restrictions.
