"You have to install the app for this"

I believe my son has installed the latest update on his Xbox one. He can play games but every app he tries to launch the message "You have to install the app for this" is displayed. Have tired hard power off and have left overnight but problem persists.
Am unable to do a factory reset as cannot access settings. Tool bar on the left is displayed but no matter what we do cannot access and features on that toolbar. Is there another way to perform a factory reset or is this a job for a repair centre?

since you can't access settings please try the steps on this link:

and check out this section:

"If the console is experiencing an issue that would require you to Restore Factory Defaults after a system update, but you're unable to access the Settings hub, use this file.

Warning Restoring your console to the factory default settings erases all accounts, apps, games, saved games, and settings. Anything not synchronized with Xbox Live will be lost. Your console syncs with Xbox Live automatically when it’s connected with the

Thank you for this. I have followed the instructions you provided and have inserted the memory stick (containing unzipped file) into a USB port. However no matter how many times I tried I am unable to get the two start up beeps at power on by holding both
the bind and eject button for fifteen seconds. The xbox one just continues to boot as normal.

What am I doing wrong?

 

Just to be sure, did you unzip/extract de content of the zip file and copied to the root folder on the usb?

And the usb device was formatted prior to moving the content to the usb flash drive?
