You can't handle the truth!

Anyone who is wondering where the story is going should check out the Spartan Ops videos on the Halo channel on xbox one. Halsey found out that chief is still alive and through a series of events wound up being nearly killed by the UNSC/ONI and is now working
with a rogue Covenant clan who has half of a "Key" or Forerunner map that has all of their technology through the galaxy pinpointed. She gave Majestic squad the other half of the key before she found out that the UNSC had tried to kill her.

Here is my theory off the top of my head. Now that Cortana is gone, Chief will seek out Halsey and the other half of the Forerunner key to try to revive/clone her since she was made using Halsey and Forerunner tech. To the USC this will put him in direct
conflict with them and they'd see MC as a traitor working with a rogue covenant faction. As they did with Halsey, ONI/UNSC will want Chief dead and they'll send their best to do it. Agent Locke. The UNSC will come upon information (perhaps decoding half of
the key) to Forerunner tech that they can use as a weapon or such (probably the same tech that could revive Cortana) that could end "the threat" of the covenant/Forerunners which would paint the UNSC as the bad guys.

Oh, yeah sure - They'll just give him the chase of his life, torture him, and reveal his face... Worrying about him dying should probably be the least of your worries.

ya, 'cause COD and Battlefield are still all the craze. Truth is there is no franchise that sticks out anymore. Honestly I think it was a phase in video gaming we'll never see again.

 

Halo for me has always been about gameplay. The lore has never grabbed me. For me the lore has lacked the grit that makes a story believable. TBH I care more about Gears of war story.

Story twists meh... Will they take the risks they need to keep the gameplay fresh and cutting edge.... I'm not encouraged so far, but still hopeful. Halo should never be a 7 or 8 out of 10... Always needs to be a 9 or higher for me to be interested.

 

The Hunt the Truth Podcast are absolutely awesome. I can not wait for the 3rd one. Have you heard them GG?

 

You could say that about a lot of games I suppose.

Apart from the story, we'll just have to wait until H5 launches to see whats New under the Suns within the Halo Universe.

Just to add something I thought I saw was when the character flinched their hand, the sidearm like Iron attracted to a magnet came to bare without having to be touched. So maybe a Star Wars FORCE stye..ish type of ability perhaps? IDK, can't see for spit
anymore, so maybe I imagined it!

 

I was thinking more magnetic field, not the "force".

 

For those who are in question or in doubt of the Master Chief's fate, let me say this.

When 343i first took over, and just prior to the release of Halo 4, there were a few 'dev documentary' type videos that were available over XBL. I watched one (or more, can't recall) on my 360. They interviewed most of the people involved in the making of
Halo 4.

There was a ton of behind the scenes footage of the making of Halo 4. Motion capture, voice over... etc. One of the most interesting parts (for me) was the interview of the story writers.

This, some of it in their own words (as best I can recall), is their plan for MC.

Master Chief was given to us as a pre-made hero. In Halo: CE, we stepped into his armor as a highly decorated, well respected, unquestioned savior of the day. Just point him at the enemy and you have instant hero. Thing is, every hero 'has a journey'. They
didn't just become a hero overnight. They have a story of how they came to be. Dedication, commitment, sacrifice...

We didn't find out about MC's childhood and how he came to be until after the raving success of Halo: CE. This leaves us with a problem, however if you want a story line to continue for any length of time... if your hero is already an icon from the beginning,
how far can you go with his story before it just becomes a lather/rinse/repeat story line?

343 decided to reboot the story, so to speak. They wanted to let us, as gamers, experience a "Hero's Journey" <(their words). They wanted us to be able to 'walk that mile' in his boots and experience the role of John - 117 without the hero status. This concept
opens up a wide variety of possibilities. They could go almost any direction they wanted.

Of course, this presents the next problem. If we are to experience a hero's journey as the Chief... well, he has to fall from grace... has to be broken down, stripped of his iconic status.

This plan is apparent in Halo 4's story. His ability, even his lucidity is questioned by Cpt Del Rio. Even Lasky shows a bit of doubt about his judgment before he allows MC to leave the Infinity when he says "Sure hope you're wrong about that Didact... or
w/e it is, Chief. But in the event you're not..." What we saw in H: 4 was the beginning of MC's fall from grace. Even the final scene, where he is standing and they are stripping his armor seems pretty metaphorical if one thinks about it.

So... @ GG and others who seem a bit jostled about the state of the story, I say not to worry. MC will return to a heroic status eventually, I'm quite confident of that. But... the journey is very likely not going to be a pretty one.

I think you'll definitely enjoy the next Halo, you'll be learning more about him... from him.

Considering the fact that his hero status is being stripped, that kind of leaves us with a major portion of who he has been to us all along... gone. In many ways, we'd be left
with a near blank character, save for what we know of his past.

Of course, his past accomplishments aren't going to count for much if he's gone AWOL and is being hunted. Therefore, we need to know who he is, as a person, at present. Otherwise,
it would be pretty hard to relate to a character who is being taken 'out of his comfort zone' and put in a situation we've never experienced [as him] before if we don't know what kind of person he is.

Again, this was apparent in H: 4. He was more talkative. He showed more emotion. Using another word 343 used, he's being "humanized".

A bold move (IMO) for 343 to make, but one that seems necessary if they want to bring some new life to the series and not step into a lather/rinse/repeat story line. If they do
it right, it could very well breathe that new life into the story. Hopefully they will. I'm looking forward to H5, with guarded optimism.
