"You cannot play online multiplayer through Xbox Live..." error

Getting this error over and over when trying to join my husband's Minecraft realm after a few week's hiatus. Suddenly it just doesn't work anymore. My account is totally enabled for online play, I've literally never changed my settings, and have had no problems
before.

Specifically, "

Join multiplayer games
Decide to allow or block joining Xbox Live multiplayer games on Xbox One."

is set to ALLOW.

Fixing this is the only solution I can seem to find anywhere, so I'm at a complete loss. Cannot contact Microsoft support over the phone as I'm hearing impaired.

Unable to “play online multiplayer through Xbox live”

I get an error message when joining friend’s realms on Minecraft stating that “you cannot play online multiplayer through Xbox Live because of how your account is set up. This can be changed in your privacy and online safety settings on Xbox.com”.

I own my account, and all I do is play multiplayer online games. Nothing on my privacy settings is blocked as far as online content/interaction.

Why is this just a problem with Mojang?

 

Minecraft realm error

Hi, I was going to buy minecraft realm (xbox one) but when I select the option an error message pops out.

"You cannot play online multiplayer

through Xbox Live because of how your account is set up. This can be changed in your privacy and online safety settings

on Xbox.com."

I went on Xbox.com and logged in. Every option was set on allow. I also checked in my xbox settings and everything was ok, but the error still pops out. How can I fix this?

Just check to see if your NAT settings are set to strict, this might be the reason for you not being able to join him, especially if you are both working off of the same network.

Are you playing Minecraft on a PC or Nintendo Switch or on the Xbox console?

If you're playing on a Xbox console, check on https://account.microsoft.com/services if your Xbox Live Gold membership is in good standing.

If someone else shared their Gold membership to the console you're usually playing on, make sure that that person has a valid Gold membership, and that your console is still their "Home Console" (they can check that by signing in on your console and in the
settings, look under "Personalization" if the console is still their Home Console).

 

Specifically from console... don't use Xbox Live Gold, never have. The error message specifically steers me to my online privacy / safety settings, even. And thanks to SMuroh as well, though my NAT settings are all kosher.

This is bewildering. The same account used to login to Minecraft ob xbox works just fine on PC to access and play on the realm.

 

Gold is required to play online on the console. If you don't have gold, that's your issue.

 

Looks like you're totally right, so I've got no idea how we've been doing it. Even checked the bank statements, and we definitely have never paid for it, just the Realms subscription. My account is still spitting out errors when I try to access my online
/ privacy options as well, so it looks like I'm just going to abandon the console and play on PC. However it was working before, I don't know, but if the only way forward is to throw out another bunch of money to Microsoft just to access a service I'm already
paying them for... nooooo thank you.
