You cannot play online multiplayer because of how your account is set up

I got this notification while trying to join a game on my Xbox one last gen, "You cannot play online multiplayer because of how your account is set up". I tried on 2 different accounts with the same result. I then tried on my computer on Minecraft for
windows 10 on both accounts and i was able to join multiplayer games. I checked My account settings and on both accounts in the privacy settings, and online multiplayer is allowed on both. whats going on?

It didnt help, the message that comes up is "you cannot play online multiplayer because of how your account is set up"

I see this might be a mobile device? I just tested on my Android and my instructions still stand there, but I'm not certain if it's different on an iOS device? Just let me know!

This link will take you to your Xbox account's Settings page. Make sure you're signed in with the Microsoft Account that you're trying to play
Minecraft with, and the tab on the left you're looking for is "Privacy & Online Safety". On that page, there are three tabs:

Under Privacy you'll need "You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice and text".

Under Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety you'll need to allow "You can play with people outside of Xbox Live", "You can create and join clubs", and "You can join multiplayer games".

Check that those are set correctly. If not, set and test, then let us know.

If you can't get to that page, or you're having issues or questions, let me know. I just walked through doing it on my computer and it should be up to date.

Hi, I hope you're doing great out there. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regard to your concern.

Can you please make sure that all of the settings below are set to "allow" or "everyone"?

Sign in to https://account.xbox.com/settings

* You can see and upload community creations

* You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice & text

* Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites

* You can play with people outside of Xbox Live

* You can create and join clubs

* You can join multiplayer games

Once confirmed, make sure that the Xbox Live Gold subscription is active on your account by following the steps below:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, and then select System > Settings > Account > Subscriptions.

After checking all that, please remove and re-add your account by following the steps below:

"REMOVE ACCOUNT

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

2. Select System > Settings > Account > Remove accounts.

3. Select the account that you want to remove, and then select Remove to confirm.

4. When you're finished, select Close.

POWERCYCLE CONSOLE

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.

2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.

ADD ACCOUNT

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

2. Select your gamerpic in the upper-left corner of the screen, move all the way down and select Add new.

3. Enter the Email address and the password.

4. Read the Microsoft Service Agreement and Privacy Statement, and then select I Accept.

5. Follow the steps to configure your Sign-In & Security preferences to add your Microsoft account to your Xbox console."
