    Hello @ everyone,

    i bought some UHD BR's, to be more specific the three Jurassic World films, they all only have a DTS:X Signal for spatial Audio, no Atmos.

    Back when I initially bought my XSX in 11/2020, I decided to use Atmos and the refore I only bought Dolby Access and no DTS Unbound.

    I already contacted Sonos and asked them about decoding capatibilities of the 2nd gen Beam Soundbar. Unfortunately she is not able to transform a DTS:X Signal into a Atmos. Sonos only works with Atmos.

    So the only solution to this seems to use xbox to do the job.

    So I have two questions, is the XSX capable of decoding a DTS:X Signal from a UHD BR and encoding it in realtime for my Beam Soundbar into a Atmos Signal?

    If it is capable to do this, do I really need both Dolby Access and DTS Unbound to do so? I wasn't really keen on spending another 20 bucks for a spatial audio service as I already bought one with Dolby Access. Btw I bought it even twice, for the PC and for the XSX, which seems pretty greedy by MS if you ask me.

    Can anyone help me with this issue?

    you are purchasing a license to the codec and yes you need both of them if you wish to access both of them to their fullest

    There is absolutely nothing that would convert between the two formats in real time for starters that would be a DRM issue. Then the processing power required to do so would be extreme.

    It is Dolby's choice how they can figure these programs, it has nothing to do with Microsoft, they are the ones who write and sell

    If your sound bar only takes Atmos, then you shouldn't buy the DTS unbound module because the Blu-ray player software will already decode DTS-MA to 5.1 PCM and send it to the sound bar

    Any Matrix does Encoding/Decoding, IceStorm III... As 5.1/7.1 Channels, are being encoded on to 2 channels for a Stereo Headset Playback, as it encodes discrete channels to simulate 5.1/7.1 channel Audio over 2 Speakers when decoding etc...

    No, they are not being encoded onto two channels. Encoding specifically connotes that the original multi-channel audio still exists in the two channel
    form. That's not the case here. Once it goes through Dolby Headphone there's no provision to decode the two channel output back into its original multi-channel source.



    Dolby Headphone is processing. It is not encoding.

    I believe that on the Xbox One the native game audio is NOT encoded and that because of the One's design (seamless switching, Snap, etc.), the Xbox is decoding all encoded audio (from TV, BluRay, etc.), mixing in the other audio from Snap etc., (re)encoding
    all of it using the format you select, then outputting. It is not just passing through the source audio and cannot do so without compromising the Snap feature etc. Because of this need to (re)encode, it gives you a choice of formats for the (re)encode.

    As GZA said, the Xbox One will decode all audio and re-encode it to DTS/Dolby anyway. By using uncompressed, that last (redundand) step can be avoided. So there is no way you can let your Denon do all the decoding. The Xbox One will decode all your audio
    in the first place in order to mix in all the UI sounds, even if you set it to bitstream out. See?
