XINPUT compatible HID Device

I have installed the 'Wireless Adapter for Windows 10' on my Windows 11 machine.

In 'Bluetooth & devices' > 'Devices, it shows in Other Devices - Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and also for the controller - XINPUT compatible HID device.

The XINPUT compatible HID Device also shows in Device Manager under Human Interface Devices. I have looked for another driver for this HID device, but have only found ones bundled with those driver updater programs that I don't want. These drivers looked to be older drivers so could have worked.

Basically i have tried to use the xbox series x controller on my pc with this adapter, and whilst I can control the menus and characters on screen - I cannot hear anything coming out of the heaset - the audio still comes out of my monitor.

This is a brand new wireless adapter where I tried to eliminate possible hardware failure of the previous adapter - so it wasn't that. There is nothing wrong with the controller - it works ok when plugged in.

Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to get this to work properly?

The driver file is either xinputhid.sys or xinputhid.inf

UPDATE: I went ahead and installed the older driver from this CAB file (into XINPUT compatible HID Device) and the controller is working properly with the adapter ie. the sound is present and the game movement works. However, If I disconnnect the adapter and plug the controller in via USB it works still - but - if I then unplug the cable and reconnect via the adapter I'm back to no sound thru the controller. So atm i have to suffice with having to keep re-installing the old drivers from the extracted CAB file, then rebooting in order to play wirelessly (because I will always need to connect via USB in order to charge the play and charge battery, and won't be able to continuously keep playing wirelessly).

This is far from ideal, but it's getting there. If anyone knows how this wireless connection can remain intact after I plug in the controller via USB cable - I would most like to learn of what to do.
