Xbox can't read new games

Well before XGD3, there was an update that caused problems for a small number of consoles. There's no update on record that caused problems for XGD3 in particular. It's worth opening a support case so MS has a record of a console not reading XGD3 but still
able to read other discs.

From the sounds of it, if you're talking about Microsoft's Xbox Game Disc 3 format, and that you're hard drive isn't compatible with it, you may be using your console outside of the scope of Microsoft Xbox Terms of Service. If this is so, your console's
warranty is voided, and if you also happened to have "modded" your console, you risk a permanent ban on Xbox Live. If this is not the case, and your hard drive is just not compatible with what you're trying to do, I'd recommend purchasing an Official Microsoft
Xbox hard drive from any online or store based electronics retailer. I know that the Xbox 360 can use usb drives to expand memory for game saves, your profile, etc. For support information on that, here is the link: www.xbox.com/.../storage

All the Xbox 360 hardware supports XGD3. There was an extensive semi-open beta test done for months to assure the company that all hardware can read the format. Your optical drive is simply failing and cannot read the extra compression. You can put in
for a repair (Approximately $80 USD) or buy a new console; up to you.

That program was to exchange a very small number of original SKU consoles. It's having issues because the data on the new disc format is stored in a different way and your laser has worn out to the point where it can't read it anymore. All lasers wear
out given enough time and usage.

Something tells me you don't have one of the very first consoles manufactured still and honestly if you knew the exact model of the DVD drive you would've had to open the case. You can figure out the manufacturer from the way the tray looks but not the
model number and opening the case violates your warranty and any obligation Microsoft may have had to fix it. Your laser's wearing out and at this rate it will stop reading even the older format discs. If you opened the case you'll have to buy a whole new
system. If you didn't open it you can send it in for repair at around $80 USD.
