Xfinity X1 and Xbox One, TV loses audio after idle time.

Love the concept of integrating xbox one into the living room, but every time I turn the TV on (and open the TV app) for the first time that day, the xbox needs a reboot because the audio doesn't work for watching television.

The xfinity x1 box is a PX001ANM and is detected properly by the xbox. I'm currently using the MSFT included HDMI cable from the xfinity x1 stb to the xbox one, but have also tried using 2 brand new (GearIT 2 Pack (10 Feet/3.04 Meters) High-Speed 2.0
HDMI Cable Supports 4K UHDTV, Ethernet, 3D and Audio Return) from the cable box, to the xbox, to the tv... (and a handful of other cables I had) same results.

The audio from the xbox one works fine, meaning, I can hear the menus and etc. video games do not lose audio. It's solely the TV, but is unacceptable to have to reboot the thing every time. I'll likely just remove the xbox from the equation, and go
back to switching inputs on the TV.

Speaking with phone support was not useful, as they kept asking me if the channel lineup was right, and actually told me to reset the MAC address on the network interface because it is related to the television audio. ... yeah.

Other information that is not likely relevant: Panasonic VIERA TC-L42ET5, Sonos Sound Bar (uses optical out on the tv, not the issue here, as xbox audio works fine). Same thing happens with the Xbox One Stereo Headset, btw, as far as "tv app" audio
not working, but games, menus, etc. work just fine.

Would love for this thing to work, especially since all this stuff is new enough but not too new to adhere to basic standards, and certainly not too old!

Help will be greatly appreciated... and/or rewarded!

    :)

Long are you talking about the cable box? You can set the xbox to turn off your TV and Cable box.

  3. X1 Platform/Xbox One Set Up

Old thread, but I just went through this pain today, after moving states. Directv box had no issues, but the Xfinity X1 box, oh boy!!

    1) Reset your TV settings through the TV/One guide in the settings.

    2) Go through the setup again.

    3) Choose Comcast as the provider.

    4) Xfinity as the cable box brand.

    5) The command will fail at least 4 times for power.

    6) Select skip, then use the manual setup and type "X1".

This should work from this point forward.

Try a hard reset by holding down the power button down on the front of the console for 8 seconds until the console turns off then unplug it from the outlet for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the console back in the outlet and power back on.

"Hard reset" does nothing. But kind of predicted that.

This issue really cripples the xbox one as a media device. Most likely going to get unplugged again.

Vsquad, you get any help from msft on this? I spent an hour on the phone with a very unknowledgable tech as well. "Reboot/reset things" assumes there's not a real bug. Clearly there is.

Nababoon - I haven't received any help on this. Calling into MS was a waste of time. I feel like I'm stuck - waiting for an update or something to fix this. Extremely frustrating.

I've been waiting for that update since I got it at launch. As others have complained "the girlfriend"/"the wife"/[I'm sure the boyfriend/husband in some cases] gets so frustrated by it has to be disconnected and not used as intended.

Where's microsoft support in these forums?

altdoc, can you give us some more details on your setup and how you use it?

Mine works fine if I reset it every time I want to start using it... hardly how it's intended to be used.

Well first can you tell me if you're using Stereo or Surround on your set top box?

Then from there do you have the appropriate settings enabled?

    My settings go like this:

Surround is enabled on the set top box.

Surround is enabled for TV (I forget where this setting is, but it's somewhere under the TV settings.)

I have HDMI audio set to off.

    Bitstream Out.

    Dolby Digital.

I have had the issue only happen once with the no audio outputting through the Live TV app. I chalked it up to the Xbox software because it has not happened in a very long time. By any chance how is your Sound Mixer set up? I noticed that the one time it
happened to me I had the snapped app on silent, and when I had went to full screen from the snapped version of the Live TV app, I had no sound. This is why I chalked it up to the software of the Xbox. By any chance are you in the preview program?

When this happened to me I was still in 1406. So I am curious to know which OS you are running on your console.

The menu-related and game audio work just fine (and amazon instant, etc. etc.) it's just fails when trying to watch TV if the xbox has been on "for a while". It's likely a matter of the handshake between cable box and xbox.

The Sonos sound bar isn't a surround device, it's just stereo, so each of the devices (xfinity, xbox, and tv) are set to stereo.

    PX001ANM Device Settings (that matter):

    Xbox One Settings:

Connection between Xbox One and Xfinity box is via the HDMI cable provided by MSFT, but also purchased the ones referenced above, with same issue.

Other info: I've actually had this thing hooked up to both of the other set top boxes as well (X1 uses one master, and two slaves) and those have the exact same problem.

    Thanks for any help!
