Xbox’s name changing policy

Hello, I have recently changed my name on Xbox to something different, but eventually came to not like it and wanted to change it back, but now I have to pay a 20$ fee to change my name? This is just criminal, can anyone give me a reason why they do this? They should at least let me change my name back to what it was before, the reason I didn’t stop to think about it is because I use discord frequently and I thought that Xbox would do the same thing (as in give infinite name changes)

The letters in the name changing page that talk about the fee are so close to the backgrounds colour I didn’t even see it.

Can someone help me change my name back? Or can you at least give a reason they have the fee? Thank you.

It can't be changed for free again, just the first time it's free, this has always been that way, the reasons could be many, but I don't think you will found the proper answer here as this it's not managed by support

Last year that was the policy for a forced name change. The policy has changed since then and you will have to pay to change your name. There is no way to get a free change.

Hey there, the Policy Enforcement Team's action in regards to the first gamertag was a forced name change. If they keep issuing forced name changes to the same person, they may issue an account suspension. There's a no 'naming and shaming' policy on the
forums; the Policy Enforcement Team won't see your post. Be sure to file a complaint again.

The new policy is that you're given a random name upon being given a Forced Name Change. You should have known that it was against the rules and would eventually happen. Unfortunately, since it happened after the policy was changed, you'll have to pay $9.99
to choose a new name.

Indeed, some recent policy changes mean a generic name will be given to those with a forced change. No matter what, a fee of 9.99 is required to change your name. GOOD LUCK!!!
