XboxOne HDMI ARC problems - Stopped Passing TV and Audio Receiver Commands

Hey

I have an LG(49UF680v) TV that outputs audio via a HDMI ARC setup with my Sony Audio Receiver (BDV-N8100w). My XboxOne is in tern connected to the Sony Audio receiver which then passes the display to the TV. Previously both my TV and Audio receiver were
setup on the XboxOne using the guided feature (as opposed to entering the devices manually) and all the passthrough commands (i.e. mute, volume, and power) worked perfectly.

Without making any changes to the settings on the TV or audio receiver, neither appear to be working with my Xbox now. I have tried resetting everything and entering manually, even went so far as to change my HDMI cables, but for some reason the ARC passthrough
no longer works. Any ideas as to why this has happened and/or how to rectify the situation would be greatly appreciated.

:)

ARC Channel Support

My setup for 5.1 and no lag:

XboxOne HDMI to "Game" port on receiver

From receiver "Video Out" (HDMI) to ARC on TV.

I had major lag until I went into the xbox audio settings, and unchecked "Allow 24Hz"....or whatever boxes, and set the Xbox to 5.1 with no compression.

On the receiver, I adjusted the sound delay a bit. I also run the receiver in PCM which gives me no audio compression, and a nice rich 5.1 sound.

Only 2.0 Audio when using Audio Return Channel (ARC) via HDMI

Hi,

Just wanted to see if someone else can confirm a similar issue on their setup?

I have seen plenty about Optical only being able to pass 2.0 but it seems the same goes for HDMI audio via the Audio Return Channel (ARC) system.

I am using the following devices:

TV: Sony KDL-55W905

AV Receiver: Onkyo TX-NR626

I have my XBOX One connected to my TV via HDMI 3, I have my TV connected to my AV Receiver via HDMI 1 going from the ARC supported HDMI 1 port on the TV to the ARC supported HDMI port on the AV Receiver.

With this configuration I am only getting PCM 2.0 audio passed to my AV Receiver. However if I connect my XBOX 360 to the same HDMI 3 port on the TV replacing the XBOX One I do get full 5.1 passed to the AV Receiver. This rules out the TV or the AV Receiver as being the root cause as the only thing changing is the audio source.

Just for clarification if I connect the XBOX One directly to my AV Receiver I do also get full 5.1, it's only when ARC is involved that it drops to 2.0.

(If anyone is wondering why I am not just using it through the receiver it's due to the XBOX One not correctly identifying itself as Full RGB colour space to the TV automatically, so I have to set the TV up for Full RGB manually and in doing so it causes issues with other video sources, so to get around it I am leaving everything else going through the receiver on HDMI 1 and just putting the XBOX One through HDMI3 directly which can be configured independently picture wise, however this lead me to discover the audio issue above)

Thanks

Russ

XboxOne HDMI ARC problems - Stopped Passing TV and Audio Receiver Commands

Hi KnottyEnough,

Sorry you're having issues with your Xbox Do you still have audio and video from your console? The volume, mute, power, ect are not passed through ARC and are sent via IR. If you have Kinect make sure the front of the Kinect is clean and/or try re-positioning it.
If you're not getting controls, video, and sound then let us know XboxOne HDMI ARC problems - Stopped Passing TV and Audio Receiver Commands :).

Auto Low Latency compatibility with equipment help

Hi there,

it could be the HDMI cable or the receiver, best option you have is to see the manual etc for the receiver to see if it supports it.

The easiest thing to try is change the HDMI cable and see what happens, but my personal guess would be that the signal is not passed through to the console via the receiver, which would mean that the only option would be to connect the console directly
to the TV.

As alternate option (if available) is to use the ARC functionaltity if the TV and receiver support that, which is able to return the audio via HDMI from TV to Receiver.

Some more information can be found here in regards to HDMI ARC:

How do i connect my xbox one s to my tv to still get 4k picture but at the same time connect it to my soundbar to get dolby atmos sound

It seems that your TV supports Audio Return Channel (ARC). However, on the TV's specification page I don't see if it supports Dolby Atmos through ARC.

If your TV is capable to send Dolby Atmos via ARC, you'd connect your Xbox to a 4K capable HDMI port OTHER than the HDMI ARC port on your TV.

You will then get 4K resolution on the TV screen, and the TV would "forward" audio via the Audio Return Channel to the sound bar. If supported, this will then be Dolby Atmos.

It seems that the Soundbar doesn't support 4K pass through. So either you would need a new TV that supports Dolby Atmos via ARC, or a new soundbar or AV receiver that supports 4K video.

Surround Sound setup correctly?
Dolby Digital is only available with HDMI v1.4 Interfaces with an Audio Return line..
The comments in the manual about Audio Return Channel (ARC) only apply to TV (page
22-23
). This is used in the case where the TV is the audio source. When there's a terrestrial or satellite feed connected directly to the TV, the TV needs a way to send audio out to the receiver. ARC is that path with HDMI. For TVs that don't support ARC,
one can use an optical cable. As you notice, the TV is connected to the HDMI OUT of the receiver. ARC's being used over HDMI OUT, not HDMI IN, on the receiver.

This doesn't apply to the 360.
Page 24 details
connection of a component with HDMI OUT (like a PlayStation 3). There's no need to use an optical cable in that case.
