xboxone external hdd size

Does anyone know what size external hdd 3.0 i can use with my xboxone as I have looked everwhere an can not find out what size i can use.All i have found is that it needs to be bigger than 256gb.

Yes External HDD support is available. The External HDD must be at least 256GB in size and use USB 3.0. Keep in mind that the External HDD will have to be formatted for use with the Xbox One console.

You can find drives that will hold up to 5TB.

There is no maximum limit only a minimum. So as you said it just needs to be bigger than 256gb. I currently have 2TB on mine and that seems to be plenty for me. But if you're going all digital you may need bigger.

So to those of you who have these externals hooked up...how are they used? For example, if say I want to play my music, which apparently still doesn't work in the background like the 360, or play videos, can I do so WITHOUT formatting it to the X1? What
if I want to use it as additional storage AND to play my media files FROM, does it then need to be formatted for the X1? I ask because I have gone and reserved, not paid for, the Advanced Warfare console due in a month and a half. BEFORE I put any more money
into it, I need to know the true functionality of the external HD's. I think I can let the other problems with this console slide if I at least can continue to use my external like I do on my PS3. Any HELPFUL replies would be greatly appreciated.

 

I don't have one, so take this with a grain of salt, but it is my understanding that you can't use the external HDD with the Xbox One unless you format it 1st. Whether you can do that and then put stuff on it from your PC afterwards though to then use on
your console, someone else will have to answer.

 

To watch movies and music needs to be in fat33 or ntfs format

If you want to download your games to it must be usb 3.0 and formated to the xbox

That is exact and consise, ty, vury much. It's formatted ntfs for use between pc, mac and ps3. Have you used one much? As in to stream home movies from? Sometimes I'll use our sony handycam for the daughters Karate tournaments, and other times I'll have
my phone and use it for videos while on vacation. Is there a specal format it needs to be in, or does it play a large variety of files?

 

I got 2 plugged in a 3 terabyte with movies in ntfs a 2 terabyte formatted for games ive gone digital both work perfectly

as for your camara I have a hd cam used it for first time last week to show my partner the video of are baby being born played fine right from camara

LOL, if only...my fireplace mantle is just under the tv, so the X1 is too tall for that, and next to that on a dvd case is my original Mountain Dew XBox and then my Halo Reach 360. I don't own my own home as yet, that'll be built in a few years, so I'm really
limited on space...I'll manage.
