if you take a image that is very dark and light like black and white and you let the lighter line go along the app pins, it will change the color some.

That show I made my purple one a mix of dark and light purple and some blue.

When I then snap the app list it will have rainbow purple colors

It has nothing to do with high contrast. After the update, the purple option in the My Colors section in the settings has actually changed from the dark purple I prefer to the light purple that I have been seeing all month long. This indicates that it was
Microsoft's doing, whether intentional or not is the question. I only say this, because the the tiles still go back and forth between light and dark two weeks after the new dashboard update.

I wish Microsoft would have have just added the "new" shades in My Color as new colors entirely instead of being stuck in between the two shades. It would be nice to hear some official word from Microsoft about the issue instead of speculating why this is
happening and a reason for the change (if the changes in shade are an intentional change by Microsoft).

I'd like to see one. There are some centered around other games. Having one based on Borderlands in general would be really cool with all the gun brands stamped on it. Maybe make it look like a Maliwan gun or possibly one of the Catch A Ride colors.
One of the new colors with the DLC changes the Bandit truck to a metallic color that looks like confetti. It changes colors depending on how you look at it. Very cool. I would buy it if it happened.

If you use Steam, you can dim the light through their settings and also change the color of the light.

Which model xbox 360 do you have? Is just the center light turning red? Does the outer circular light encircling the power button change color? When you hear the sound is it accompanied by the red light strobing/flashing/fading?
