XBox X will not detect Dolby Atmos for Logitech A50X Headphones no matter what I try.

I connected my A50X headphones and tried to do Atmos. Shot me to the learn now page that told me I needed to download the Dolby app to my X-Box. Installed it, and it only offers me a trial or a lifetime license. Tried resetting the headset to factory, burning the new firmware to the A50x headphones by using G-Hub on my PC (didn't fix it), even tried resetting my entire X-Box, which really made me angry. I tried different USB cables and no matter what I do it simply offers me a trial or permanent license ($14.99) and won't let me go to settings. It works for Atmos TV sound and Atmos Vision (has a check mark and says "ready" on both of those tabs, but for headphones, it doesn't show as configurable and sometimes throws a "cannot connect to the Windows Store" error message.

Yes, I have it setup correctly on the Xbox, I followed the instructions exactly. Yes all of the related software is current as of today- including the firmware.

I have done combinations of the following to no remedy:

    • rebooted console countless time
    • powered the console off and unplugged
    • powered the A50x base off and unplugged
    • reset the TV to factory default and reconfigured video
    • disabled on CEC functions on all devices
    • robooted headset
    • factory reset headset
    • updated firmware via GHub
    • switched between "PC" and "Xbox" modes countless times
    • uninstalled and reinstalled Dolby Access app
    • drank a lot to keep from smashing something.
There is another thread dating back to 2023 with the A50s with the same problem, and there was never a fix. They ended up paying for the license. I don't intend to do that. I will return the headphones before I do that.

Quick question: Is the license key embedded in the headphone hardware and will be detected anywhere they go? I suspect that is how it works: that the Dolby software pulls some identifier from the headphones to enable Atmos. Otherwise, you could enable Atmos on ten Xboxes with the same set of headphones, right?

Anyway, because support for nearly all products is non-existent these days, I don't expect Microsoft or Logitech to offer a solution, other than one blaming the other, but a girl can dream!

    Thanks for reading!

    :)

Great to hear, I hate those charge only cables. they should really make them be clearly marked

    Found the solution.

It was the USB cable connecting the XBox to the charge base. My cable, like the other poster's was a charge only cable. I figured it could by starting the free trial, and it still didn't work. It threw a giant X on the Dolby app settings screen. I swapped the USB cable with my iPad cable from Apple, waited 30 seconds, then lifted the headset off the base and it now shows the proper screens and I am fixed!

you need to pay for the app in order to use Atmos. The money that you pay contains the fee for the license

Dolby Atmos on Xbox One X = issue !

    Hi RomiDumitru,

*maybe* this "problem" is exactly how the Dolby Atmos App on Xbox One X works.

Dolby Atmos native content? perfect! Dolby Atmos playback.

No Dolby Atmos? the App upmix current audio track to Dolby Atmos (the headphones features works in this way).

I don't know if is intentional.

    Atmos only outputs Multichannel

So after following up with the Dolby Access support team, apparently games aren't supported on home theater, only on headphones:

"Unfortunately, Games encoded with Dolby Atmos audio are not compatible with Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, as they are specifically configured for Dolby Atmos for Headphones. If the content you are experiencing is not compatible with the app you are
using, then audio will cease, or will simply output as regular stereo output.

To clarify, Dolby Atmos for Home Theater is included at no charge with any Dolby Atmos supported hardware, such as a receiver or Xbox One X, and is used to activate Dolby Atmos features via HDMI connection for a Dolby Atmos certified AVR, soundbar,
    or TV."

"Unfortunately, the version of Dolby Atmos included with your Xbox is Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, which is not compliant with any gaming content."

It kind of strikes me as hard to believe, or that this won't be addressed, but that's what they're saying for now. That said, it still isn't working for me for Netflix content either, so I'm going continue troubleshooting with them and see what's doable
    and what's not. Fingers crossed.
