    Xbox X HDMI display issues

First of all guys thanks for reading this. This is the first time I have posted anything to this forum.

I have an Xbox X and recently it started to go to a black screen intermittently around two weeks ago losing both sound and video. At first, I thought it may have been an issue with my surround sound system (Pioneer Vsx-330-K), or at least I prayed it was.

Sadly no as after connecting the Xbox X directly to my TV’s (Techwood) HDMI input the intermittent black screen continued.

I have tried numerous HDMI cables as well as both ports on the television. I have also tried a soft reset of the Xbox (whilst retaining my games and apps) and a different TV.

None of that has made any difference at all and indeed after turning my Xbox
X back on this morning I am faced with no signal at all from the device even though it is on and seems functional.

I am unable to boot it into safe mode (or at least I think that I am) as I cannot see anything on the screen at all.

Rebooting the device and changing the cables have made no difference. I have checked the cables (both ends) and they seem fine (they work on my PC with no issues as do the ports on the TV).

Am I missing something? Or has the HDMI timer chip on the PCB failed?

HDMI port on the back of the Xbox X is fine as far as I can see.

Some reports say that a fault with the HDD can cause this. Is that true?

I would be grateful for any help you smart guys (and girls) can give as sadly this is my main form of entertainment and I cannot afford to buy a new one (not in employment currently) so as I said any help you can give would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    :)

    Xbox one X no signal

I'm very sorry to hear that your Xbox doesn't seem to be displaying... have you checked the following?

    • Verify HDMI cable works with another device
    • Verify the HDMI input on your TV or Receiver works with another device
    • Verify that the HDMI cable is plugged into the HDMI IN port on the Xbox One X
    • If you have another display (like a HDMI computer monitor or another TV) try connecting it to that
    • Try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable while the Xbox One X is powered on

Check if it's just the display having issues... if if the Xbox One X isn't booting properly:

    1. Turn on the Xbox One X, and connect a LAN cable to your Xbox One X and to your router
    2. Log into your router and check to see if your Xbox One X is showing up on the network
    3. If you can see it on your network than that means that there's an issue in your display chain specifically
    4. If you can't check it that way, see if the Xbox App can detect your Xbox on the network
Do controllers wired to the Xbox One X power on and light up properly? This is another way to check and see if it's a display issue, or if the XBox One X isn't even booting properly

Hopefully one of the items listed above will help us get closer to the source of your problem 🙂

Xbox One X Audio Selection Error 0x80bd0009

    Hi corukun,

Thank you for the update. It doesn't seem like your Xbox One X is enrolled because that is the current public build for the general population so we can rule out an insider update as the cause.

You mention you have HDR, Freesync and Auto Game mode (auto low latency) on your display. What TV model do you own? Is it made to use HDMI 2.1?

I've seen those display options available on gaming monitors (display port) or new TV's that came out this year or 2018 and they commonly will be HDMI 2.1 to keep up with those display demands if your display is also 4K. Currently the Xbox One X is only
HDMI 2.0b certified, but I'm sure they will be updating the console soon with the correct firmware to make the console more compatible with HDMI 2.1. If this is the case, then that could by why you are having these issues since the Xbox is trying to use the
best possible display settings your TV can handle with Auto-Detect selected, but the Xbox One X isn't quite at the HDMI 2.1 mark yet. Since the Xbox goes through the TV to then continue audio passthrough to the receiver via HDMI ARC, the chain is affected
due to display issues. I think this is why you can only select 5.1 uncompressed when overriding to HDMI, but your display's features are no longer accessible. When using Auto-Detect, the display features are there, but audio can't complete passthrough and
the Xbox assumes your receiver is not capable of 5.1, which it is.

Let us know if this correlates to your situation at all.

My Xbox Series X is zoomed in on my tv . This is not using the magnifier. Whenever I power it on a surge noise happens from the power cord to the machine .

Hi and thanks for reaching out. I hope you’re doing well. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be happy to help you.

It sounds like you are experiencing some issues with your Xbox Series X. To troubleshoot the zoomed-in display on your TV, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check the display settings on your TV.

    - Some TVs have a "Zoom" or "Aspect Ratio" setting that can cause the display to appear zoomed in. Make sure this setting is set to the correct value for your TV.

    2. Check the display settings on your Xbox Series X.

    - You can access these settings by going to the "System" tab in the "Settings" menu, then selecting "Display & sound" and "Video output". From here, you can adjust the display resolution and other settings that may affect the display's appearance on your TV.

    3. Check the HDMI cable and port.

    - Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to the Xbox Series X and the TV, and that the port on both devices is free of any debris or damage.

    4. Try a different HDMI cable.

    - If you have another HDMI cable that you can use, try connecting your Xbox Series X to the TV using that cable to see if it resolves the issue.

If you continue to experience issues with the zoomed-in display on your TV after trying these steps, you may want to consider seeking assistance from Xbox support or a professional repair service.

    Variable Refresh Rate

No you can go on YouTube and see other people use hdmi to DisplayPort active adapters for their Xbox series X but it has to be a active adapter with a usb plug on it to power it you can’t just use a hdmi to display port cord you won’t get picture or audio. And you’re right it’s not bidirectional it has to be hdmi to display port active adapter not display port to hdmi active adapter. And the display port hooking up to the monitor also gives it a way cleaner and more colorful and crisp picture compared to just regular hdmi to hdmi
