Xbox won't use new hard drive

I resented bought an external hard drive, Samsung Spinpoint M9T 2TB ST2000LM003, to expand the memory on my X1. Last night I finally got it working and I moved my games over to clear up some space on my internal HD. Today I tried to move over some
apps and the options to move or copy were no longer there. I downloaded some additional levels for a game and they went to the internal drive instead of the external drive. I am able to play games from the external drive, I just can't put anything on it anymore.
    Can someone please help.

    :)

I presume you mean the Hard drive and not the DVD drive.

If you purchase a new Xbox s, then no, you won't be able to use you old HDD Im afraid, as they are totally different design, and connection method.

You can of corse use a transfer cable (SEE HERE >) to transfer all your old content across to the new Xbox s HDD.

System Update caused my Hard Drive to be unformatted

Hi, it's more likely what has happened is that the hard drive has failed or become badly corrupted hence why you're getting the system update request because the system can't find the software on the hard drive.

All you can do is try to format the hard drive, if it formats that's great, if it won't format or formats then shows as unformatted again after a restart of the xbox you're looking at needing to buy a new hard drive.

As you already have usb devices configured as xbox storage you can remove the hard drive and the xbox should update and use one of your usb device rather than the hard drive for the system software. You will then at least be able to use the xbox until you
    get a new hard drive.

Sorry to hear it. There are two things here that I need to point out.

    1. From my research on the brand name that you provided it looks as though the Spinpoint M9T drive is not an external drive but a SATA drive. You must use a USB 3.0 compatible external hard drive. (please post a link to the drive you've purchased if I'm
    incorrect).

    2. The Samsung drive is manufactured by Seagate. Seagate drives are known to have issues with Xbox consoles and work intermittently.

    Just a Question...

Depends on if you're going to be using the same hard drive or not. If it's a new hard drive, then obviously you'll need to reinstall the game, But if you're going to be using the same hard drive, then I assume you won't need to reinstall it.

Game Drive - you need to attach an xbox 360 hard drive

    Hi,

Don't try to get a 'new' Xbox 360 hard drive from Amazon or eBay. These hard drives are not official drives from Microsoft and despite being internal drives, they still won't allow the play of original Xbox games on your console. Only official hard drives
from Microsoft contain the pre-loaded backwards compatibility software to play original Xbox games.

Your best off looking for genuine 'used' Xbox 360 hard drives.

Hard drive still shows unformatted after going through formatting steps

Your hard drive has a problem, and won't be usable again.

If the hard drive is under a year old you have a warranty.

If not you will need to purchase a new one, or use a USB thumb drive till you can.

Unable to play Xbox Original Games on my Xbox 360

Another thing to check is the hard drive itself. Was the console and hard drive purchased brand new or were they used? Did you purchase them through a place like ebay?

If the hard drive is a knock-off it won't play original Xbox games. If you can, try playing some other games that are on the compatible list. If they don't work, then it sounds like it may be an issue with the hard drive.
