    Xbox won't turn off and Phantom controller


    Recently, my Xbox 360 slim will not turn off. Every time that I try to power the console down, it starts back up with a controller in slot one, despite my controller not being turned on. In addition, this phantom controller seems to be rapidly pressing A
    and start. The only way I can keep the console off is to unplug the power cord.

    Xbox restarts.

    My xbox slim will not turn off and stay off. When I turn it off it immediately restarts. There is also a 'phantom' controller connected. There are no background downloads turned on. The problem began after the latest live update.

    Phantom Controller Issue

    You could try taking the batteries out of the phantom controller and then turning off all the other controllers and the Xbox, then put the batteries back in and then use that controller to turn on the Xbox.

    Hi, I see you have Guitar Hero in your recently played games list. Is the guitar or some other Guitar Hero controller laying around somewhere with something pressing buttons on it ? Try taking the batteries out of the guitar/drums and see if the issue persists

    Surprisingly, this did solve the issue. I have a possessed guitar hero controller that won't turn off, but at least I can play my xbox again. Much thanks.

    Phantom Controller Issue

    You could try taking the batteries out of the phantom controller and then turning off all the other controllers and the Xbox, then put the batteries back in and then use that controller to turn on the Xbox.

    Xbox restarts.

    The console physically restarts whenever I turn it off. The controllers turn off with the console. By phantom controller I meant that my console shows a controller being connected despite my two controllers being turned off.

    I'm having the exact same problem as CG Phantom. If I turn on the Xbox using the console switch, it works properly, but if I use the controller or the "Xbox on" command, it shuts back off. It does this the first time I turn it on every day.

    I have a pile of batteries here from all the controllers in my house, this phantom controller still seems to appear but is not signed in. Xbox still immediately turns back on whenever i hit the off button. Am i being watched through this secret controller?

    The phantom controller doesn't exist, which is why it's so annoying! And unfortunately whichever controller I turn the Xbox on with becomes player 2.
