    Xbox won’t start up, please help


    I was in the middle of playing a game, had been for like 2-3 hours, and then it just shut off completely.

    When I try to turn it back on, it does the green loading screen with the Xbox logo for like 15 seconds and then shuts off.

    I’ve tried various methods of trouble shooting that didn’t work.


    1. I highly doubt it’s overheating because I can hear the fan spinning when I turn it on, plus it doesn’t feel particularly hot.


    2. I don’t think it’s a power issue because it’s able to turn on for like 15 seconds, which I don’t think would be possible if there wasn’t power.


    3. The only possibility I haven’t completely eliminated is the offline system update. Problem is, most things say you need a windows 10 computer to do this, and all I have is a pretty old Mac, but it does still work. I saw 1 thing that said there is a way to do it with a Mac, but it seemed really complicated so I wanted to see if anyone knew any other things that could be wrong or things that I could do.

    If there’s any info about the issue that I didn’t state, feel free to leave a comment. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Also, I noticed that right before it shuts off after 15 seconds, the Xbox button on the console itself flashes really fast a few times. Not sure if that helps anyone or not.

    Also, I tried the factory reset option that “keeps my games and apps” and as soon as I chose my WiFi network during set up, the Xbox shut off, and then began the shutting off and loading cycle again. I’m pretty sure it might have shut off here because I think this was the last step of the set up.

    I think my main choices are to either get a new hard drive, get a new Xbox, or try a hard reset. Are there any other options that anyone knows of?

    Hi, thanks for getting back to me.

    I have just tried the cable into the tv on a separate device. The tv recognises the cable in all HDMI ports (2-4). When i plug the cable back into the Xbox the tv shows nothing so therefore it apoears to be something within the Xbox that wont recognise the
    cable.

    Hope i’m making sense!

    Thanks for the prompt reply but sadly this didn’t work. The system isnt recognising the HDMI cable which i know is working correctly as i have tried it on other systems such as my DVD player.

    I’m really not good with these sort of things and nit sure what to try next.

    Got a few questions so we can hope to identify where the issue is.

    Does the TV act as if it's getting a signal, it just doesn't show anything, or does it remain unchanged when you power on the Xbox as no signal?

    First thing to check is the HDMI source on the TV, cycle through and see if it's on a different input. Then, if available, try plugging the Xbox into a different port and see if it displays on a different HDMI input on the TV. If you have a different HDMI
    cable, that might be worth trying as well. After, again if available, I would recommend trying to hook it up to a different display to see if it displays on there.

    Those steps can help us identify if it's the console, the TV, the cable, or something else along those lines.

    make a change on your situation.

    Hi, i think that i may be hetting somewhere. Yes, it’s an Xbox One S and it is showing a white light on the start button.

    After doing what you told me in the 1st post I actually got something on the screen!! The console has linked into the controller (which hasnt happened for a couple of weeks) so i have managed to press the troubleshoot icon then Restart.

    I can see that console has now recognised the HDMI lead but i now have a completly black screen.

    Do I continue to leave things as they are and hope it eventually fixes or reboot?
