Xbox won't start apps or settings

can't start apps , or settings or anything and when I hold down Xbox button it does bring me to "What do you want to do"but is not responsive to my controller I've tried turning the Xbox off and unplugging it and nothing please help this has been a problem
for I'd say over a 2 months now

Game Updates not Auto Downloading

Why won't my Xbox one X automatically download updates overnight or during the day? I have to start the game, then it closes and starts and update when one is found. My current settings:

Updates:

Console: Keep console up to date - Checked

Games and Apps: When this is enabled your Xbox will automatically apply background updates to your games and apps: Checked

Power and startup;

-Turn off after: Do not turn off automatically.

-Power Mode - Instant-On

- When Xbox is off, turn off storage - Unchecked

Xbox won't load the home screen

My Xbox won't load at all for some reason after the start up. It freezes at the home screen and doesn't let me access Xbox live or any pre installed apps. I tried to factory reset but the setting tab won't open. I've attached a picture of what my home screen
looks like when this happens. Any suggestions?

Try this and see if it helps any. Go into settings, power options and switch from instant on to power save mode.

After you switch to power save mode shut it down then start it up. Your cache is full, instant on wont clear it. If you cant access the powe setting to switch hold power on the console 8 sec to hard reset it.

Try not to remove the Xbox App from your PC, as this might cause problems with future updates through Windows Update.

The Xbox App is an app tile that does not consume resources, unless you have started it. If you check the Task Manager, and the Xbox App is there, you should see a green leaf next to that task. That means the app is unloaded from RAM to the hard drive, and
is not using processor resources.

You can set the settings in the Xbox App to not show notifications, and after you disabled every setting, you can then remove the Xbox App from the start menu, and you won't be bothered by the app.

I tried solution one but that wasn't successful.

I did, however, do the windows repair (solution 2) and that worked. The app worked immediately after repair.

Thanks, I'll try running sfc and see if anything comes up.

In ref to the sub, I meant Game Pass. I'm effectively paying for something I can't get access to via the app. That was all.
