    Let me explain. I use the external hard drive for media use only. It would work, and it had no problems what so ever.

    Let me note that the box stated: 3.0 2 TB. And that was correct. However, on day when I tried to use the external hard drive My Xbox said that my external hard drive needed to be 3.0 or higher. This made no sense at all. I HAD USED IT BEFORE AND IT WORKED FINE. SO WHY WASN'T IT WORKING NOW. And don't tell me TO LOOK AT THE BOX to make sure it was 3.0 because it said it was.

    I need help.

    Is the external hard drive 3.0 usb or higher? If not, it won't work with the Xbox One.

    Yeah, I agree about disliking replies where someone tries to call the poster incompetent.

    What Xbox model is this, and what operating system is it currently running? How long had you been using the HDD before this problem began? Did the Xbox console update just before the error message started?

    I assume you have copies of all your media files on a computer, so can you reformat the USB harddrive, copy your media files onto it and try again?

    No a thumb drive won't work. You need an External HD that has a 3.0 usb and 256 GB of space or higher

    The Xbox One can only use an external USB 3.0 hard drive with a capacity of 250gb or higher, so the answer to your question is no you can't.

    Just make sure the external hard drive you buy is a USB 3.0, otherwise it won't be compatible with the xbox one.
